can endo return after a hyster?

I am curious...can endo return after a complete hyster????
the only reason i ask is because i was told endo lives off of estrogen and if you are estrogen right after a hyster and if any was left can it still come back???? and if it does how can you get a doctor to believe your pain has returned with out looking like a crazy person????

thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

can endo return after a hyster?

I had my LSH/BSO 2/24/05 and was put on HRT in the recovery room, I thought the same thing and even posted the same question--from what I have learned the endo can return however the likely hood of it is slim---my dr said he is for sure he got all the endo out and so now I guess I have to take his word---I am only 27 years old and HAVE to be on HRT---I hope this helps a little

can endo return after a hyster?

Hi witryk05

There are some women that do still have problems with endo even after a hysterectomy. I do not believe it can come back....rather it was never gone in the first place. If all the endo was not removed, then estrogen can stimulate it to grow and spread. The estrogen can either be from the ovaries or from estrogen therapy.

Here is an article about endo after a hysterectomy. Click here .....

I would hope that most doctors were aware of the fact that endo can continue to cause problems in some women, but maybe it would be helpful to print off some articles to share with your doctor if you believe you are having trouble with endo again.

Has your doctor recommended progesterone to help suppress the endo? Just as estrogen stimulates it's growth, progesterone helps inhibit the growth of endo.

can endo return after a hyster?

I was glad you posted. I am so nervous about it returning. I go in the 27th this month and am so scared and confused. I was told that I should bring my Bio's to the Hosp and take the next day after surgery. Bioest 1mg and MicroProg 20 mg. I am so not getting why the estrogen (I will be more firm at my next Doc as to why and why not) I don't want to go thru all this and be faced with more of it...

can endo return after a hyster?

witry

I am so glad you asked this question. I had a TAH/BSO 7 weeks ago and have been on synthetic (Estratest) for the first few weeks, and then switched to bioidenticals for the last 4. I also had tons of endo, but my MD didn't seem concerned and put me on the Estratest right away. He seemed more concerned about me getting my hormones since I wasn't even close to menopause, and then was immediately plunged into it. I will ask him also when I go back. He said it was a mess in there, but never mentioned it was on any other organs or such. Good luck to you, and I hope your just fine.

can endo return after a hyster?

My doctor had me stay off of estrogen for 3 full months after surgery while treating any remaining endo with Aygestin. That made perfect sense to me.

Any side effects of Aygestin? You said it was progestrone right? How did the going without the other hormones effect you?

I had no problems on the Aygestin. It helped with my hot flashes a lot too. That was my doctor's treatment though. Make sure you review all of your options with your doctor before surgery. I had hot flashes from the moment I woke up from surgery and the Aygestin really did the trick to get rid of them.

can endo return after a hyster?

Hi witryk05

I also had TAH/BSO when they discovered severe endo. I was off hormones for 2 weeks and couldn't take it. I was given the patch 0.06mg. When i questioned my gyn about endo returning with ERT, he became a little defenssive and told me it was possible but in his experience it never has on low dosages of estrogen. He proceeded to recommend that I don't go on the internet and get "all that unsubstantiated info". He said he would not trust stuff on the internet! I was a bit taken aback since he has been pretty easy to talk to and has always done a good job with me. I do trust him ...... but it was weird his reaction. Maybe it was a bad day for him.

The pain you have, could it it be adhesions. I still have pain in the exact same area but it can't possibly be back this quickly (only 41/2 months). I think mine are adhesions.
