Does PMS change after TAH?
Hi!
This may sound like a silly question, but will my PMS symptons be the same after a TAH? In my case, I will be keeping my ovaries. I know hormones come from the ovaries, so I'm thinking it'll probably be pretty much the same, provided the ovaries continue to work properly. Any takers on this one?

Does PMS change after TAH?
Nancy,
I also had a TAH and I kept both ovaries. I am 6 weeks post-op today and I can say that I still have PMS just like I did before. I am almost 35 years old and my face breaks out more now when I PMS than it ever did when I was a teenager. Drives me *crazy*.

Does PMS change after TAH?
Hi!
I am three months and four days post op and yes my pms did change. It isn't near as noticble or as bad as when I had my uterus. I get weepy and have some hot flashes instead of a period. Not a bad trade off. I am keeping track of my "periods" on my calander--It helps me to recognize and control those weepy moments. Plus, I figure when I get my hormone levels checked annually it might help the doctor. Everyone is different though...Some gals I know haven't had any at all. I know I don't bloat anymore, but I still have food cravings and such. But it all may be different for you. Good luck and keep in touch if you want someone to talk to.
HUGS!!

Does PMS change after TAH?
Nancy,
It took about three months for my ovaries to start working again after my TAH. During that time, I experienced hot flashes, night sweats and very moody. After my ovaries started back up, I started back with the PMS I had before. I would take the PMS over the hot flashes any day!
HTH!

Does PMS change after TAH?
Hi!
I just had to respond to your post having suffered PMS and done all the alleged treatments and cures for a decade with no improvement. I had my ovaries removed and went on HRT at the time of surgery and have never felt better. NO PMS!!!!!!!! No problems at all...no menopause symptoms, no lost libido, no weight gain (lost 20) no headaches, no nothing. It's like a million blessings from heaven daily! I figured if I left my ovaries I'd continue to suffer pms which I understand is the case from the extensive reading I did pre-op. I figured if I left them I wouldn't take the HRT which is helping me far more than the risk they cause I believe. I went from total insomnia, hunger, crabbiness, bloat, aches, sweats to feeling 20 years younger. My sleep is perfect, my skin looks better, my workouts and recovery is far better, I lost alot of weight, I've stopped sweating physically and mentally. I understand that leaving ovaries leaves you susceptable to continuing PMS and that with ovaries many won't take the HRT and may end up feeling bad still. I figured that if the odds were 50% my ovaries would fail after surgery mine would-and I would keep waiting too afraid to take HRT and continue to have my problems. Overall I feel that without PMS it is far easier for me to maintain my weight, fitness, health, sleep and mood which will go a long way to aiding my immune system. I understand the risks of HRT, but still feel they only happen to a minority of women-and I am willing to take action daily to reduce my risks. I think this has ended my PMS which when I add it up totaled feeling lousy, rotten, bad for 7 total years. I thought that was enough-so I risked it, had the ovaries out and feel soooo much better. Of course I understand you plan to keep your ovaries and I respect that so you may have to look into more plans to manage your pms. I did it all: charting symptoms, drugs, anti-depressants, vitamins, diets, exercises, accupuncture, macrobiotics, and not one of them made a lick of difference for me. Love Noom
