2 Days Before Surgery

Just found this site tonight...I am having surgery on the 14th...strangest thing is I did not think that they would keep me after surgery and now, all of a sudden, I am reading about everyone staying a couple of days after surgery, darn doctor told me that I would be up and running in a couple of days and would not even have pain, hmmm...I think he told a fib...this will be different for me...I have always jumped up and ran right after any surgery...guess I might be in for a surprise...Hope to be able to find friends on here and share experiences...too late tonight to tell my story, but I will be back tomorrow, after they do my blood work at the hospital...I sure do have a lot of questions for them now! Glad I found this site...and good luck to all the others here getting ready for surgery...Brenda

2 Days Before Surgery

Brenda Hi and
You didn't say what kind of hysterectomy you are having. I had a TAH and I was in the hospital for 2 days. You are right I believe your doctor fibbed about being up and "running" in a couple of days. Depending on the type you are having, it would be more like a couple of weeks.

Good luck and sending lots and lots of 'S your way,
Shan

2 Days Before Surgery

Welcome, Brenda! I found this site shortly before surgery, and it has been a lifesaver for me! A lot of times, the type of hyster you are having can dictate how long you stay. I had a TVH and was told I could say three days, but I went home the next morning. But, no matter which procedure, I haven't seen many running about after only a few days (maybe hobbling, slowly, while holding the lovely swelly belly! ) Good luck, and you will definitely find friendship and support here!

2 Days Before Surgery

Hi Brenda! Welcome. You are so NOT alone! I'm having a LAVH-BSO on 6/15 (7:30 ET) and my doctor told me I would need to spend one night in the castle. He said to expect 2 to 4 weeks of recovery with restrictions for up to 6 weeks. Even if I felt like running after 2 days I plan to let myself be pampered for as long as I can get it!!

Good luck tomorrow. You'll be in my prayers. Dawn

2 Days Before Surgery

Hi Brenda: Welcome to the site. I had a LAVH on May 19..........almost at 4 weeks post op. Feel better now than I did before surgery. Have to make myself not lift and strain. I stayed two nights at the castle, but I had a posterior and entrocele repair work done at the same time. If you have any questions, I will be glad to try and answer them for you. Good Luck with your surgery!!!!!!

Brenda to Hystersisters.

You will find that many women here are going through the same things that you are. I have only been on the site for a couple weeks and have found that everyone here is more than willing to give emotional support, give needed advice, or just to lend an ear. I hope that you make many friends here.

to your new life without pain. Hope everything goes well. See you on the other side.

2 Days Before Surgery

Goodness! Your all so sweet, this was a pleasant sight tonight...here I sit, waiting on the laxative to kick in...thinking all along that my doctor has to be an idiot LOL...I pray that they do not give me anything to make me run my mouth...or he may cut my tongue off! My doc is Mr. Personality...NOT...I told him twice today that I could not drink a gallon of that stuff because I have Crohn's Disease, and he never heard a word that I said! So I took matters into my own hands and went for the Citrate Mag...that is what the other ladies were taking in pre-op today...darn they were eating also, while he put me on a clear liquid diet today...right now I feel like backing out of this whole thing...Did any of you feel the same? He told me it would take 4-6 weeks to get back on my feet today! Although, before it was only going to be a couple of days...I just don't think he has his facts straight..ughhh...and on top of everything, I have to stay in the hospital tomorrow after the surgery...he at first told me I would be coming home....and I am not getting a morophine pump...he is going to have them give me shots every three hours...I am scared of Needles! However, if the pain is bad enough I will probably be glad to see someone with a needle...lol...I will eat every word and apologise to the doc if everything goes well, *that is if I still have a tongue!* Hopefully all will go well...this whole thing has had me upset today...I have not even told you all how it started...in 2003 I stopped having my periods...well we figured that I was going through menapause, hot flashes and the whole nine yards...I took Estrovin...and they ceased...but I still did not have periods...well, in Dec. 2004, took a trip to Pittsburgh Pa. to pick up a friends father in law that had a kidney transplant...when I got home, I had jagged pains in my side like a pulled muscle...and went for my regular visit to my family practitioner, he saw me holding my side and thought maybe it was appendisitis...so he put me in the hospital for observation, well darn I started bleeding, and told them it must be a darn kidney stone...no biggie...and I came home...well it was a really bad period...my husband was frantic and wanted to take me back to the hospital, thinking it was a darn kidney stone...I told him it was a period...about a week later the pains got worse, and the plot thinkens..we went to the hospital and they found that I had Crohn's disease, so I went through all of that bull...well, the pains kept getting worse, so I made an appointment to see my OBGYN...ooops...he was no longer there, so I got to see this new guy, My doctor now...he did a laproscopy, and removed an adhesion from my right ovary...no biggie again...or so we thought...did not have pain for a week or so....and boom! Not just in the right side but both sides...I went back to the OBGYN...and he schedules me for a complete hysterectomy! This is how I got where I am now...sorry for being sooo long winded...but I am a nervous wreck...thanks for being patient with me...good luck to all of you ladies getting ready to have surgery...I will definately let you all know how this turns out...and thanks for the warm welcomes...Hugs...Brenda
