Stomach upset
I am 17 days post-op and 1 day off "house arrest"; the discharge orders said I was to not leave the house for two weeks. Anyway, I've done alot of walking around the house the past two weeks, went up and down stairs quite a bit last week.
Yesterday and today, I went for walks around where I live, not long ones at all, and I am soooooo nauseas! I'm off pain meds except to sleep; bowls are pretty regular.
Has anyone else had this?

Stomach upset
Avi, I have been sick to my stomach on and off since the surgery. Some days are better than others. I am also on lots of meds since I had complications. Don't know if that helps or not, but wanted you to know that you aren't alone.

Stomach upset
Amy,
Thanks for your post; it does help to know I'm not alone. The range of recovery from this surgery and symptoms that go with it seems so wide and complicated, I really appreciate the support.
My youngest, a daughter, has her 5th grade graduation tomorrow, and I'm determined to make it through. Maybe an "air sick bag" is a good idea.
Hope your recovery and other complications will smooth out. I went to undergraduate school in NE and have fond memories.
Thanks again.

Avi,
might be worth getting your blood levels checked, I was extremely nausea's the first few days after my hyst, I would walk to the toilet and have to lie down because I felt like I was going to pass out, they did a blood test and it turned out my haemaglobin levels were half what they should have been. I had to have a blood transfusion. It may not be that at all but may be worth getting it checked, you may just need to go on iron tablets.
Hope your feeling better soon

Stomach upset
Avi,
we all have a vagal nerve that is atached to our heart, stomach and intestines. ( I see it commonly post heart surgery patients) It is a very tempermental nerve. if it was toughed in surgery(unfortunatly this nerve is not neon yellow so a surgeon does not know if they have touched it) it can cause some residual nausea. It usually is self limiting and eventually goes away. Gravol is not always a good medication for this type of nausea (if it is vagal nerve stimulated nausea) I would contact your physician and ask for something to ease your stomach. Even though you are nauseated.keep sipping on fluids through the day, sometimes being a lil dehydrated will iniciate the nausea as well. Hope it passes soon,

Stomach upset
Thanks for your replys to my nausea concerns. Due to the gastic bypass some years back, I already don't absorb nutrients as much.
I did make it through the 90 minutes of my daughter's fifth grade graduation, but by the end, the nauesa was really bad.
I'm back on my lounge; tried a bland turkey sandwich, but had serious heaves. I know calling the Dr. is the right thing; it just seems to take so much energy as I think she'll want to see me.
Thanks again.
Best wishes for complete healing to all.

avi,
I understand the problem processing food as I to suffer this. Remember what the doc tell us when we are not processing food to well, this is very important during your recovery. Stay away from breads, oatmeals, and red meats. At long as tummy is upset it is better to eat soft foods, such as rice, scrambled eggs, and soups. Also gatoraid and apple juice. When our stomachs are not processing food at a normal rate, certain foods will make your upset stomach worse. Processed foods seem to stay there even longer than others.
One trick I have learned to settle an upset stomach is ginger ail at room tempreature. I will fix myself a juice size glass and sip it slowly, this will normally relieve the upset stomach.

Thanks Kelly,
I was trying oatmeal and an occassional piece of toast as they are bland, but they may be exacerbating the problem.
I'm also calling the Dr. tomorrow.
