bio-identical or not ?

Hi ALL .........

Maybe you can help me to understand . I have been taking Estrasorb which I believe to be bioidentical. Now the Dr. has switched me to Estradiol 1 mg oral (watson pharm. co. ) . Is this bioidentical (the pharmasist said it is synthetic)?? I am confused :confuse: . Also if anyone else is taking this when is the best time to take it?

I go tomorrow for my 6 week check-up. I think I would rather stick with transdermal but at 100.00 a month for Estrasorb just can not swing it (No insurance). Are the patches as expensive? I have read about vivelle dot and climara which I understand to be bioidentical.

I just started the Estradiol oral today .......I sure hope it works as well as the estasorb has worked for me.

Feeling anxious about all this. Thanks for your support .

bio-identical or not ?

Hi Robin!

You can relax--estradiol is a bio-identical estrogen. It's the same kind of estrogen in Climara, Vivelle Dot, and even in the Estrasorb you used.

You could call different pharmacies to check on patch prices. I have insurance but without it I think my Vivelle Dots would run around $40 a month.

For some women it doesn't matter what time of day the pill is taken and others find they are more sensitive to the timing. You can experiment to see what works best for you. Another thing you can ask your doctor about is splitting the dose and taking half in the morning and the other half at night. If you take it all at once and you get good symptom control you won't need to split the dose, but if you don't feel your symptoms are under control around the clock, splitting the dose is a good way to help that problem.

I hope this helps! Good luck at your appointment tomorrow!

bio-identical or not ?

Thank You................ April Dawn

I looked up the Estradiol on the Watson site and didn't see anything about soy or wild yam in the ingredients and got worried ....lol. After all the reading I did about bioidentical and deciding that is the way I would like to go.... I thought I was being mislead.

Thank You also for the good wishes for Dr. appt. hopefully all will go smoothly.

Robin
