Swimming???

I had a TVH on 5/26/05. My dr. said no swimming for 6 weeks. Just curious, did your drs. tell you a different amount of time? Shouldn't all the stitches be healed within 3 wks or so? It's so hot here and the kids are swimming everyday, it sure would be nice to hop on a float!

Swimming???

All I have to say is: Be a good princess and follow your doctor's orders! I am very sure he/she has their reasons for telling you to wait 6 wks. It is just not worth jeapordizing your health. Besides, time will fly by! Take care!

Swimming???

I'm 4 weeks post op and my doctor says for now no swimming as well. His point was that you never quite now what's in the pool...and I have a slow to heal incision for which he is still seeing me weekly.

For me, it's more a matter of wanting to do something that someone says is forbidden.

Swimming???

I had my post op check up at 5 weeks and after internal exam DR said I still had unhealed stitches.
So no sex, pools or hot tubs for 2 more weeks.
I would listen to your DR you never know how well a pool is maintained and having a hot tub I know those chemicals can change overnight and become funky.

Swimming???

Hi,

I was released for going into my own private pool (Decrease risk of bacteria) at 3 weeks post-op. I was still told no excercising or actual swimming but it would be ok to be submerged in the pool.
I had a TAH and my outside incision was completely dry and healed at that point. Everyone is different though and it is best to follow your own MD.

Swimming???

Not being able to swim is the pits I can agree with you, but our doctors have our best interests in mind when they set the restrictions.

I have discovered my own way to combat the heat and still enjoy the pool with the kids. Every day for 2 weeks now, we all load up at 12:45 on the nose and head to the public pool (opens at 1 PM)

I get my loung chair, and put my sun tan oil on, lay there and bake in the sun while the kids swim. When I get hot, I head inside, and stand in a cool shower for about 5 minutes, then go back and lounge for another 20 minutes or so. This way I know that I am protecting my internal sutures from possible infection, and I still get to be with the kids. The big bonus is that I have gotten extremly dark for hanging out only 2 weeks at the pool, it has to be the family secret home made tanning oil!

Oh I forgot our public pool also has a splash zone, and I go over there and play with the grand babies alot because again the water is coming down over me like a shower, so it is doctor approved.

Boy I can't wait to actually crawl into the water and enjoy!
