need quick help please, breast biopsy tomorrow
Hello sisters. My biopsy is tomorrow, I am having an ultrasound core biopsy?!? The breast surgeon found a small hard solid mass in my breast. Tomorrow they are doing the biopsy. I am so scared. Also in the other breast he found a complex cyst. He said there is "residue" making it almost solid. Someone please help. I will be leaving around 11:00 tomorrow to go have both places biopsied. Someone please tell me they have had this done and it doesn't hurt too bad and also that there lump was completely solid but it was benign? I am only 26 years old and had my hysterectomy in March for cervical/uterine cancer. I am really trying to stay positive but now that my husband has left for work, I can't stop crying. Someone please help!!!!

being afraid...
Dear just1me,
I so wish I could help you with biopsy information. I can understand why you are fearful. But, I do hear they are not as hurtful as you would think they would be.
And, if you read my post today you will see that I have been crying buckets right along with you. All these tests are just so dang' scary. Not to mention worrying about the results!!
My thoughts will be with you. So sorry you have to go through this. Hopefully, a sister will drop in soon and talk about her experience.
And remember the majority of bumps/lumps are benign.
I really just dropped by to give you a warm hug. Hang in there...
Please keep us posted....let us know how it goes for you.

Just, I have had a core needle biopsy under ultrasound. That was in May '03. I felt nothing. NO PAIN. You just lay there. First they do give you give you shots of novocaine on the surface of the breast. (No biggy.) The radiologist told me nerve endings are on / hear the surface of the breast, not deep within. That's it. That area of your breast is numb. They go ahead with the core needle biopsy. You can look at the "equipment" if you want. I didn't. Have no idea the size of the needles, etc. Again, no pain at all. E-mail or PM me if you have questions.
And I have had three other breast biopsy procedures: incisional (in OR), stereotactic core biopsy, and Mammotome. Core needle under ultrasound was best of the four. Have also had a lumpectomy.
Don't worry about results. Eighty percent of breast biopsies result in benign findings. Much more likely you will be fine.

 s just1me!
I am so sorry you are going through this torture. Fear of the unknown is brutal, isn't it? I"m not a very good waiter/worrier
I hope and pray everything will be fine, and that the biopsy shows nothing but calcifications.
I may be going thru the same thing soon pending latest mammo/sonogram results.
Will be thinking of you today and will be anxious to hear how you made out.
Best, K9

That's normal to fast? Radiologist said my doctor would have results in about two days. I didn't wait for the call from my doctor. I pestered him / his office for a full day. He finally called about 6:00 p.m. That time -- benign!!

Just, Was your biopsy yesterday (15th) or today (16th)? How did it go? Didn't feel a thing. Right? Hope so. That part is over. Now you get to wait.... Remember, eighty percent are benign.

update
Hello all, I got the news from my biopsy. Now I am totally confused. The dr. said it was NOT malignant YET, but not totally benign. What does that mean? I have an appointment to be scheduled with the breast specialist to decide where to go from here. The dr. said this (whatever it is) increases my bc risk by about 80 percent. Has anyone else had this kind of news? I am totally confused. Please help. As far as the biopsy, I could feel lots of tugging and pulling but no real pain. I was totally terrified, and was crying because I could actually feel the instruments in my breast tissue yet it didn't really hurt it was just so weird. Now what? Please help me out!

Just, Your reaction to the biopsy procedure sounds more like the stereotactic core biopsy I had done in October '97. Definitely felt it within my breast, but was not painful.
As to what your doctor said about the results. I don't know. Never heard anything really put that way, yet it sounds as if it could be DCIS. I don't know. You need to ask more questions.
IF it's ductal carcinoma in situ, technically it's not cancer. It's a pre-cancerous condition. Very slow growing. Some DCIS tumors will eventually become cancerous and some never will. As yet there is no test to determine which will and which won't, so all need to be treated as cancer. I've been there, done that -- and I am fine. Ask your doctor if he is speaking of DCIS. Any questions, e-mail or PM ME.
