Recovering at home

I came home from the castle on Sunday evening. What an experience! Way much more pain than I had expected. I can't help but wonder 'what was I thinking'. My surgery was on Friday at noon. By Saturday night, they were wanting me to switch to Vicadin pills instead of the IV meds. Now, it's Wednesday and I have 5 Vicadin pills left and NO Refills! I was told that my rectocele repair required tons of stitches, as did the many varicose veins found in my vagina. So they admit that my case is harder to recover from, but aren't willing to give me much for pain.

I cannot sit at all. I'm standing to type. I eat all meals laying down. I also came home with a cathedar because I could not urinate enough on my own. It is such a pain to deal with while trying to get into a comfortable position. I go back on Friday to see if I can have it removed of if I'll need an additional surgery to cut the TVT. I dread the 20 minute ride in a car back to the dr. since I cannot sit. And I dread the thought of being cathed again.

I am so upset about my experience and totally regret having it done. I wanted to be able to come here and say that waiting was the worst and be able to reassure others who are waiting. Now, I just feel like hell.

Brenda
I am sorry you are in so much pain right now and regretting your surgery. I to felt unprepared for the pain and was shocked when I woke up from surgery. Waiting was not the worst part for me either, but it will get better. Call your dr. and tell him/her that you need more pain meds, I got a refill at 3 weeks.
Try and do your best to rest!!!
Hugs
Michelle

I replied in your post in the pre-op section but I still feel the need to atleast send a to my sister and tell her Im thinking of her.

If you ever want to just vent please feel free to pm me, I wish I could help more.

Also call your dr. he/she will give you a refill. You just had major surgery. They only give that amount of meds because there is a limit to each perscripton when dealing with narcotics.

PLEASE call your doctor RIGHT NOW and tell her/him that you MUST HAVE a refill!! And let him/her know how terrible you feel! My doc told me to call the hospital (the OB/GYN clinic) and tell whoever answered that I just had surjery and need to leave a message for my surgeon - maybe that will work for you now - and s/he will call you back soon.
You are a sweetie to be putting up with all the pain and not complainig much. My docs told me that taking the pain meds actually HELPS the body heal faster because you are not as stressed out and using energy dealing with the pain. I got 2 refills on my pain meds (perocet) by just asking.
I hope you are feeling much much better and that your ride is not too painful. My heart goes out to you, dear Sister!!

Thank you all for your support! I made it from 10 pm last night until now (still haven't had any) vicodin, so maybe I will be okay after all! I'm saving the vicodin for Friday's car ride to the doctor to see about getting the cath removed.

Thanks again.

Hi Brenda,

I didn't even try to go online until a week after surgery. And even then I could only type for a minute or two at a time.

I wasn't pain free for quite awhile, but I was able to manage my pain with a combination of two medications, one that had a narcotic pain reliever and a high dose of anti-inflammatory medication. Many of us have pain during the first week or two...or longer...it does start to ease up though. Please don't hesitate to call your doctor if you need help with the pain!

If you are in pain you should call and ask for pain pills, now is not the time to try and be a hero. You may rest and feel better if you have your vicodins and that will help you heal faster. I hope you are feeling better today I feel so badly for you!!!
