No more Pat tests??

I saw my GP today for my annual exam, and she was all excited for me because she said I would never need another Pap test. My surgeon never really addressed this and now I am wondering.
I have no cervix..........so does that mean no more Paps??

thanks for the info!!

No more Pap tests??

I asked my doctor the same thing. According to my dr, no cervix does NOT mean you should not have a PAP test. If you have other risk factors for cervical cancer--multiple sex partners, exposure to HPV (human papilloma virus), family history--you should still have a PAP test yearly (they just take the cells from the vagina instead of the cervix).

No more Pap tests??

My dr said I will still need to have a PAP test every year due to the slight chance that I could get vaginal cancer. It is very rare, but can happen.

It never hurts to be thorough, since we have been through so much already.

No more Pap tests??

Ditto for me. My doctor said there is always the chance you can get vaginal cancer and I should continue having a pap every year especially since I had a couple abnormal ones in previous years.

No more Pap tests??

I agree with everyone else here, just bc you don't have a cervix doesn't mean that you can't develop cancerous cells in your vagina.

My doctor said that I have to Pap annually for three years and then once a year after that. But I am still going to go every year even after three years have passed just to be on the safe side.

No more Pap tests??

I had a TAH (cervix & uterus only) on 3-9-05 and my OB/GYN wants to see me every 9 months for a Pap and my annual exams. I heard because some cervical cells can be left behind in the vaginal wall and can still become cancerous so it is still good to have exams.

No more Pap tests??

my doctor said the same thing. i will have to have a pap test even though i dont have a cervix. they took out my uterus, cervix and ovaries. i had some focal areas of cancer on my uterus. i will go every three months the first year and then every six months the second year and then by the third i will go once a year. im trusting God nothing more will show up. my pap test were always normal. just by chance they did a biopsy because of spotting in between periods. never had any pain or discomfort. everything was normal i thought. thank the 'good' Lord it was found early.........

No more Pap tests??

I saw my doc/surgeon on Tuesday and he said that because I don't have a cervix anymore that I don't need to have pap smears but I do need a pelvic exam every few years. I guess that's when they check for vaginal cancer or any other changes in the vagina. I guess that's generally what everyone else is saying.

paps

I was told about every two or so years. My last one was about a year ago. I am thinking about going in and having my hormone levels checked and all that lovely stuff done.
