Looking at options....
Three weeks ago I went in for my annual Pap. I'm always careful to get them, my grandma (mothers side) had cervical cancer at the age of 28, so I know the importance of annual Paps. Well a little over a week ago, the dr's office called to have me come in for a colpo. The colpo was done a few days ago. The Dr. took a biopsy as well as did an endocervical curretage. Dr. said that they would probably recommend cryosurgery.
I have had problems with ovarian cysts since I was 19. I've been experiencing recent extensive pain from more ovarian cysts, abnormal periods, and abnormal bleeding between periods and after sex, also cramping between periods. I had been attributing it all to the ovarian cysts (which I have yet to find a dr that doesn't tell me "they'll just go away") but am now realizing upon my research on cervical cancer that some of these symptoms can be from the cervical cancer.
At this point, I'm 29, a single mother of 2 children, had a pelvic infection 4 years ago, which dr's told me the chances of me getting pregnant were slim. So at this point, my question is, how likely is cervical cancer to come back after cryosurgery? And if it is likely to come back, I think my preference would be a hysterectomy...if I opt for a hysterectomy, what are the pros and cons? What effect does a hysterectomy have on sex and the sex drive?
I've been reading thru the forums here, and its been great to read other's stories. It's nice to know that I'm not alone here.
Thanks all!
Jen

Hi again Jen76!
Unfortunately, most of the ladies here in Cancer Concerns forum had no choice in having a hysterectomy.
I would defenitely recommend an opinion by a gyn/onc. You will find hundreds of posts on this site regarding the pros and cons of a hyst. Also, many posts have started on the issue of sexual side effects.
You can type in a few key words in the search function to find them.
Let us know what your Dr. says.....we will be thinking of you...

Hi Jen,
So glad to hear that your biopsy came back at CIN 1! I just wanted to let you know that if you have issues in the future, say with CIN III as you originally thought, I wouldn't recommend cryosurgery. I had CIN III and was only given the option of cryo. Come to find out, that can scar the cervix and they can have a harder time diagnosing furture issues. Ususally a cone or LEEP or preferred by docs now when CIN III is present. Just wanted to pass on what I've learned. Though I hope you never need that bit of info. Jen aka Jiggy
