obgyn visit

I just came from seeing my ob gyn. I am so confused. I had hyster and kept one ovary. She is suggesting hrt. I am insisting on bio-identicals. She gave me the name of componding dr. I thought I would need progesterone, but ob-gyn is suggesting estrogen. My main complaints are flushing, feelings of being overwhelmed, weight gain, anxiety and panic, allergies, and not being able to sleep well. Any advise????

Hi derby Generally the easiest approach to finding hormonal balance is to start out with just estrogen (assuming there is no reason why you absolutely have to use progesterone or progestins with your estrogen, such as perhaps a history of severe endo), and find the best estrogen dosage for you; then add in progesterone or testosterone (one at a time) if you still have symptoms that seem to indicate that you need them.

It sounds like you've taken the first step, getting started with your DR. I bet the estrogen will help with a lot of the symptoms you mentioned; then you can take stock of where you are and consider adding progesterone if you need it. Some of us do, some don't.

Good luck!
s,
-Linda
