estrogen and progesterone use

I have a question...does progesterone stop the estrogen from working??

I know this sounds silly, but does it counteract estrogen to bring your levels up??

I thought that progesterone was a precursor hormone to estrogen and testosterone.

I read and try to understand, but I think IM RIDING THE SHORT BUS THESE DAYS

Anyways, Im just wondering this, Im torn between stopping it or continuing it, its only 50mgs orally.

but if it is not allowing my estrogen levels to rise, then that would mean to stop, however I thought it would be a balancing hormone.

I know Im a pain, but I need some help to understand, any experienced ladies please chime in?

thank you.

estrogen and progesterone use

I was wondering the same thing. I stopped using progesterone 3 weeks ago "just in case" it was...figured I'd get my estrogen balanced first and then add progesterone if I needed it. Have you tried splitting your dose of Estrace? Maybe 1 mg in the morning and 1 mg in the evening both dissolved under your tongue might get more out of it? That's my latest brain-storm anyways. I plan on asking my Dr. about this tomorrow...I'm not liking the Femring. I can't feel it but I keep worrying that it will come out which isn't worth it to me. Kinda like checking the tampon every time you go to the restroom. I'd rather take a pill and be done with it.

Save me a seat on the short bus!!

Hugs to ya!

estrogen and progesterone use

I'm with ya here! I read and read and read about HRT....but cannot make heads nor tails of it. I didn't get a full explanation at my 2 week post op appt. either, so I'm in the dark. Right now, am not taking anything (waiting for saliva hormone test results). Can anyone state in "laymen's terms" exactly what a basic regime of HRT would be? I know....it varies from woman to woman....but let's talk basic. My gyn did mention something about a cream that she suggests to put on your wrist? I'm lost!

estrogen and progesterone use

first jewels, careful on what your gonna do with that estrace undert the tongue. From what I understand yes the absorbtiion is better, but 1mg is too much that way, when i was doing that every day, my heart raced out of control.

thats when I started swalling them, I did split the dosage up by swallowing them 1mg at a time, but still felt like dog poop.

What I was thinking and I dont know how true this is, the way i was looking at it, is for the first 12 hrs. my body was working on only 1mg ... then having another the next 12 hrs. to me i thought my body should be metabolizing the higher dose, see what i mean??

I have felt better doing it that way, but yet the progesterone question comes into play. Is the progesterone makeing me feel like low energy??? this i dont know, is it stopping the estrogen from working. some of the ladies told me not to do two hormones at a time, but my pharm. thought it would help me as far as balancing went. I dont know. I didnt take it last night... I gotta not take it tonight. If i have to deal with symptoms of withdrawal, oh well i guess, how much worse can it be than it is now. So jewels, be careful ok?? what I did yesterday and today was swallow 1 1/2 and put the other 1/2 under my tongue. who knows how this will work. Pills are easier, but if they dont work, im still gonna ask my doc about the 3mgs and Ill let ya know k??

roz I agree this hormones stuff is frustrating, to me i think about getting the good benefits of all of them, but then i remember what if the progesterone is not for me or if it is too strong, I dont like the water retention of estrogen, and i see that progest. can help that, as well as keep alot of other things in check, but maybe i just need a lower dosage or better in a cream form ..we will see.

Im irritated with my pharm. tho, i called her 3 times on friday with a promise of a call back, and nothing, so Im a ittle honkerblonked off right now, like I can do this alone??? Ill be calling my doc tomorrow, he always returns my calls. Im very lucky to have that support of him, he lets me do what I want, and will advise me as well.

he didnt say to use the progest. he left that up to me, he said if it makes me feel better to go ahead and use it, but i will be asking many questions tomorrow when i leave a message, and set up a time to get my levels drawn, if he doesn think its too soon yet.
