What if nothing is wrong?

I don't know if anyone else has thought this but what if after the surgery they find out that there wasn't a big enough problem to warrant a hyst? I have been thinking about this one, and havent heard anyone else ask the question so I thought I would ask.

What if nothing is wrong?

Hi Dianna -

I guess the first question would be "Why are you scheduled for a hysterectomy?"

If a doctor has told you that surgery is required I would assume there's a reason. If you aren't happy with the reason he/she's given, you need to get a 2nd, or even 3rd opinion.

What if nothing is wrong?

Well I had total trust in my gyn. Last year when she discovered my fibroids she did not think they were big enough to go through the surgery, this year she did( they were four months pregnancy size). And two other gyns I saw for scans agreed. I did not have a worry about the decision.
I decided to get rid of my cervix( though it was healthy). I am still happy about that, not that I could do anything about it anyway

Why did you have your surgery?

Take care Iva

What if nothing is wrong?

I am having my hyst bc of severe endo, a fibroid, and adeno. A dr told me when I was 17 to get this done, and I didnt want to. I wanted to have kids so I told the dr what to do w/ the suggestion. My current dr told me in march that all the bleeding was making me anemic for 14 days each month, and when that fact was combined w/ all the other things I have been told are wrong it was the best solution. I just worry sometimes that what if they take everything and send it to path and find out that they were wrong?

What if nothing is wrong?

That was my biggest fear, I almost convinced myself my Dr was right and that I should just live with the pain and bleeding.

When the Path report came back she appologised and said I was right to have the surgery.

We always go through some sort of doubt, as though we are making too much of a fuss, but its our bodys and we know when something is not right, and it is not right for you to be bleeding for 14 days a month ++ all the other things you have been told are a wrong.

The end choice is still your to make.

I would suggest to go for a second and third opinion. You can ask for a scan and see the fibroid for yourself .

Good luck Iva

What if nothing is wrong?

Hi Dianna,

It is always wise to get a second and third opinion before having any major surgery.

Have you discussed alternative treatments? If you try an alternative treatment and it doesn't work, then you still have the choice of a hysterectomy. If, however, you have the hysterectomy and find out you didn't need it, then you can not go back and undo anything. It would be too late to try the other options.

While most come through the surgery without complications, there are many who have serious complications. There are also many who wish they had not had the surgery at all. Unfortunately, there is no way of knowing who will have complications.

Read the posts on this site about problems some ladies have after their surgeries. Here are 3:

What if nothing is wrong?

I know what you are going through! I had an ablation, etc... to have fibroids removed last summer. It took care of the bleeding, but not of the pain. I still have horrible PMS and pelvic pain and back cramps. So, this summer I'm having the TAH. My gyn said it may be adeno which was in the uterus which we wouldn't know until she took the uterus. Part of me is afraid that I'm a huge hypochondriac and that everything will come back okay and I'll still have the pain.

What if nothing is wrong?

Thanks for all the advice. This dr actually is a 4th opinion since I was 17 that told me this needs to be done. But I still worry that maybe I am not doing the right thing.
