Abnormal Pap Smear Post Op?
Hello Sisters,
I am two days shy of being 5 months post op. Everything seems to be going well, except for the swelly belly. But, my worry today is that I just had the result of my pap smear from last week and my internist says that it showed a-typical cells. He wants me to repeat in a month. He also said that the a-typical cell result might be due to the hysterectomy and a result of healing. Any one else out there have this? I am looking for all words of encouragement and wisdom.
Thanks and love to all,
Kirby

Abnormal Pap Smear Post Op?
Hi,
I have not had this , but did find some information about a-typical pap smears.

I hope this helps. Maybe someone will come along who has had some experience with this.
I hope everything goes well for you.

Abnormal Pap Smear Post Op?

I'm sorry that your PAP did not come back normal. On the bright side, yours came back atypical rather than abnormal, and this means that while some of the cells may not look normal, they aren't really abnormal either. Lots of things can cause this--recent surgery (which you had), infection, intercourse within 48 hours of the PAP. Many things can lead to an atypical or abnormal PAP reading. Try not to worry about it too much (I know--easier said than done). Hopefully when you go back in a month, everything will come back normal. Good luck! Let us know how it goes!

Sorry to hear about your atypical pap. There are a lot of reasons for a pap to show atypical cells, no reason to panic. My best advice is to make sure you keep all your follow-up appointments. Also, ask your doctor about an HPV test and see if he feels the situation warrants one. Good luck.
