Prempro

I just returned from a new doctor in hopes for an answer to my sever side effects and misery since my complete Hysterectomy in 2003....weight gain, painful joints, heart palp, bloating all symptoms of low progestrone...I have been given Estrogen and Biestrogen, also tried Estrotest, but never anything with progesterone which was my reason for the visit.....As usaual, I felt like every thing I was saying was going through one ear and out the other...with no saliva test, no blood test, to find my level of hormones he insteads he hands me a couple of boxes of PREMPRO and told me to try it...and I did some extensive checking on this DOC!!! ... After I got home I look the product up on the internet to educate myself and to my amazement I discovered that it is a very controversial drug, that is all wrapped up in lawsuits, and also has a long list of bad side effects including weight gain, the one thing that I am fighting the hardest!! Can anyone educate me on this product from personal experience??? I took a 0.3mg/1.5 as soon as I left the Dr. office and am beginging to feel a little nausea & lathargic....please somebody answer back soon!!

<Admin. Note - The way Premarin/Prempro are manufacturered is considered a hot topic on this website and it is not up for discussion. Please keep that in mind when making replies. Thank you!>

Prempro

Hi shessy

Prempro is an HRT that is usually given to women in Natural menopause because it contains estrogen and progestin. The progestin helps protect the uterus from uterine cancer.

Women without a uterus in surgical menopause do not need the progestin and may be prescribed premarin since it contains estrogen without the progestin.

I wonder since you were asking for progesterone if that is why your doctor gave you the Prempro??

Progestin and natural progesterone are very different. The unfortunate thing is that not all doctors understand that.

There was a WHI study done using Prempro and the findings came back with undesirable effects and the study was stopped due to an increase risk of problems. The progestin in the prempro is thought to be the cause of some of the concern involved.

If you are interested in using natural progesterone and your doctor is not very knowledgeable in prescribing it, then maybe finding another doctor may be helpful.

I had to switch doctors because my former doctor did not believe in using progesterone or testosterone. I found a compounding pharmacy by using this locator www.iacprx.org

I asked the pharmacist for the names of doctors who prescribe women's natural bio-identical hormones and found a wonderful doctor to help me get my hormones all straightened out.

One more thought if you are interested in trying progesterone is to try an OTC kind first. They are not as strong as the prescription progesterone but many women find they work very well and do not need the prescription from the doctor.

I have read that The Hystersister store sells one that works very well for many women.

Prempro

Maybe you should try another doctor who is familiar with natural hormones. Remember the doctors get these drug samples free from the drug reps. I'd say, keep on looking. And good luck.
