Re: Male or Female Gynecologist

I've had both -- I used to prefer females because I thought they'd be more understanding since we 'have the same parts' and all.

The GYN who did my surgery and helped me finally get to the bottom of the problems I've been having for 10+ years (when everyone else said there was 'nothing wrong') happens to be male. He is a great doctor and a pleasant person to be around, and I wouldn't trade him for the world!

Re: Male or Female Gynecologist

My preference is totally for women. I have had both and have just found women more compassionate for all of my problems and what it has done to my life.

I also prefer a woman. My doc is about my age, 50ish, and has had many of the same problems and procedures as I. I feel a kinship with her, plus she's a great doctor.

Re: Male or Female Gynecologist

I'm so blessed to have found the most caring, compassionate, down to earth FEMALE ob/gyn in town. My doctor is a highly skilled surgeon who is always there for me. She totally understands what I'm going through and what it's like to be a woman.I'm pretty sure that a male doctor can't possibly know what dysfunctional uterine bleeding is like...

Re: Male or Female Gynecologist

I've had several female OB-GYN and a couple of male OB-GYN. I prefer men. They tend to be gentler while women act as if they are handling their own body parts. Women tend not to tell you what they are about to do until they are actually doing it. Their hands are colder and their fingers are thin and poky. Women tend to have less sympathy for the physical pain and discomfort of the exam and they don't listen to what you are saying, they have their minds made up before they do an exam, and they seem to base your treatment on their personal experiences. Men tend to listen to what is said, and they don't try to tell me what I'm feeling.

Re: Male or Female Gynecologist

My Gyn is a female, but when I had the hysterectomy done, I went to a male. My gyn wanted to do a TAH, and I wasn't wanting that. SO I got a 2nd opinion, and found an amazing male Dr who did DvH, he was great!!

Re: Male or Female Gynecologist

My doctor is male, though I have been to females in the past & I have found the male doctors to be more likely to be gentler & answer questions regarding why & when the recommend procedures
