urodynmic test today and am disappointed

Hello
I had my test this morning and am discouraged. I had a urodynamic test 6 months ago and showed stress incontinence. I was supposed to get a tvt done. I cancelled that surgery and guess now it was a good thing. The results were somewhat different today. I had terrible abdominal pain on my way to the appt and had to stop at a bathroom on the way to empty. I drank more water on my way to the office. As I sat in the waiting room I had terible abdominal pain again. I finally got into the testing room and got to empty my bladder. It took about five minutes to do so. They couldn't believe it. I had a very intermittent flow, which is not normal. The new staff dr. said maybe I have a obstruction. As they filled my bladder to three different levels they had me cough and do a valsalva maneuver. No leakage either time. I leaked at my test 6 months ago. After that they had me stand over a towel and cough. I leaked then. Next they had me almost sitting up on that special table and wanted me to empty my bladder with the two catheters still in place. I could barely make a dribble come out. They took out the catheters and told me to sit on that toilet and empty out. It took me about five minutes again, with very intermittent flow. They couldn't do a post test risidue as the catheters were already out.
I have a appt. with the head uro/gyn Aug.3rd. I am going to have a cystoscopy.I will also have a surgery consultation then. My bladder holds way too much without much of a urge to go. I just get bad abdominal pain. I am scared and not sure what all is going on.
The practioner said the dr. will let me know what he will need to do to help me with these issues. I will most likely get my small cystocele fixed at the same time as it does bother me. I am still waiting for the colon rectal office to get my defecography test scheduled.I am having bad bowel issues at the same time. She said if I need surgery for that it can be done at the same time. The uro/gyn can also removed abdominal adhesions if that is what also hurts me. I can feel a deep ripping sensation at times on the left bottom quadrant of my abdoman.I am not supposed to drink anymore than 64 ounces of liquid a day and make sure I empty my bladder at least once every three hours.
I am terribly discouraged, but am so glad I went to this uro/gyn to be looked at. The urologist who was going to do my tvt didn't do a urodynamic test and had no idea I was having such a emptying problem along with the stress incontinence. The tvt may have been the wrong procedure and caused me more emptying problems. I guess everything happens for a reason.

Smile - urodynmic test today and am disappointed urodynmic test today and am disappointed

Hello mtdewpeg!
I am so sorry to hear that the urodynamic test didn't go the way you thought they would. I do think, though, that the test results will give the doctor more information to go on when he meets with you and discusses your options. You are right, thank God you didn't have the TVT done...that could have turned into a nighmare for you....it may have very well made everything alot worse. I know that you are getting discouraged, but it sounds like you are in good, capable hands... and as long as you feel safe & comfortable with this doctor, you are on your way to getting the treatment you need to feel better. In the meantime, post here whenever you need to, when August 3rd feels like it will never get here fast enough & you get downhearted. When do you go for your cystoscopy? Take care and keep us up-dated!

urodynmic test today and am disappointed

My cysoscopy will be Aug. 3rd too. It will be done first, them my surgery consultation. I am being very patient, because I want to have the defecography test done and have those results before my appt. with the uro/gyn. Both of those dr's work at the seton center and can operate at the same time. I am so glad my gyn sent me there.

urodynmic test today and am disappointed

Peggy,
I am so glad you didn't have the TVT done - I was really mad at the urologist before my surgery - saying it's a wait and see thing - I am so glad I did - I only a little over a week post-op and still have a catheter - but when I do remove the catheter I don't leak - just can't go - the TVT would have been the wrong thing to do. I had a defogram done years ago - just leave all your pride at the door - it wasn't painful - just a little humilitating. Keep us posted.

me again

I talked to the practioner at the dr. office today. I had a few questions to ask. she said I have alot going on. My tests results were unusual somehow, but didn't elaborate much. She said she doubts very much if I would need bladder surgery. That tvt I was supposed to get would have caused me more problems. My tvt surgery would have been next Fri. The cystoscopy will check the functioning and any problems from inside the bladder. The intermittent flow was not a good thing. Now I don't think he will fix the cystocele. She said most likely surgery would be for adhesions. I had a lapro 10 months ago for adhesions, but only turned out to be scar tissue all over my lower abdominal wall. nothing was stuck down then. Could it be by now?She also wanted me to have a ultrasound of my ovaries. She said I could have it done at any hospital. I called my Gyn since my yearly is next week. He said if she faxed him the order I could have it done before my appt. next Fri. That makes it easy on me.
The practioner told me to make a list of questions and concerns so I don't forget to ask about them at my surgery consultation. I don't know why they call the appt. that as I don't even know if I need surgery.
I do feel this uro/gyn may fionally be able to answer alot orf questions I have about my medical concerns.

Peggy
