Changing Taste Buds

6 days post-op, here's what's changed in the way of taste:
What's Still Hot: Chocolate!
What's Not: Coke (tastes bitter and flat) and my Hazlenut coffee creamer (just tastes nasty)
Haven't tried champagne yet. If it's bad, I may have to build myself a time machine!

I agree all my tastes have changed too.... I don't know why... strange isnt it to have something you loved and all of a sudden you hate it... It is gonna cost me a mint to figure out what I like and dont again.... so much for 45 years of tasting food....

I had the same thing happen to me.NOTHING that I liked prior to my Hyster tasted or even sounded good.I want no junk food at all and only wanted fruit, veggies and HEALTHY stuff.I lost about 15 pounds.Unfortunatly though that didn't last long enough.I've gained it all back, cause CHOCOLATE RULES now!!!!!

Changing Taste Buds

What gives?? I know what all of you mean. I remember being in the hospital telling my teenage daughter that I don't have a taste for anything at all. It still is that way. Nothing sounds good to me except Honeycombs!! Crazy. I also love juice like I were a kid again. Haven't had pop since surgery. (Only 3 wks) No appetite at all. Wonder if the meds play a role besides the hormones not knowing who I am anymore

Happy taste buds to all!!

Changing Taste Buds

I was the biggest chocoholic on the planet until my surgery. Now I can't even stand the sight of it. Unfortunately, I cannot say the same about brownies.

So, how long does this aversion to certain foods usually last? I'm glad to know I'm not going crazy after all.

Changing Taste Buds

Sometimes when we are Intubated(tube in our throat to breath fo us durring surgery) the "taste buds" nerves get touched. It can take a week to months for the taste buds to return. Hang in there.

Changing Taste Buds

I remember the first coupla weeks not having a great appetite at all due to severe wind and bloating. But everything I did have tasted like I was tasting it for the very first time. My taste buds were really strong and everything just tasted so wonderful.

I lost about 7lbs during those first 2 weeks but have put it all back on again now

Am eating normally now, plus loadsa chocolate (boredom).

It all comes together eventually and we have to recognise that everyone heals at a different pace. Hang in there.
