The only one with pain/need meds at 4 weeks?
Help - maybe I just need to hear some reassurance! My TAH/BSO was June 10 (4 weeks today), and I'm taking Ibuprofen regularly around the clock. Even with that, I still need the prescribed pain meds 1-2 times a day. I'm really trying to be careful not to overdo things. Is there anyone else at around 4 weeks also not feeling perfect?
Thanks-
Conifer

Here is your reassurance. It takes time to heal. The body has been through a heck of an ordeal. Give it some time, and dont be so hard on yourself. Rest so your body can heal, as for the meds, we all heal at different rates, some faster than others. If you need pain meds, take them, we cannot heal if we are tired and worn out from battling pain.
Here a big Hug!!!!

I agree she is right. I didnt have much meds starting the day of my surgery (mostly because the morphin pump wasnt working and then stoped all together) So I dont need alot of meds. But my sister had to have meds for almost 2 months after hers. So it is just a roll of the dice. But if you need them take them!!!!! Just remember you wont need them forever. Love ya and heres one for ya

I agree with the above posts, everyone is different. And if you are in pain, it is difficult to heal. I feel really lucky to have not needed much pain meds, but you can bet if I was in pain, I would be the first one to call my dr. and ask for more. Be gentle with yourself.

The only one with pain/need meds at 4 weeks?
I will be three weeks post-op on Monday....and I still use my pain meds when needed. It seems that sometimes after walking (up to a mile) I need a pill.
I too am worried about over doing it with the pain meds.......but, sometimes the pain just won't go away with plain ol aspirins or ibuprophen.

I agree, we are all different, I will be 3 weeks post op on Tuesday and have had more pain in the last two days than in the first week of my recovery. So I am taking pain medication twice a day.
I also think doing too much too soon may have added to the pain so its important to take it as easy as you can. Sometimes when I read posts about sisters who seem to be progressing faster than me it gets discouraging......ex. not needing pain medication.
But there are so many things to consider, so give your body relief, take your medication and remember that this is temporary, you will be pain free when your body is ready to be.

The only one with pain/need meds at 4 weeks?
Maybe this will make you feel better, I am 7 weeks and having to take them all over again because of ovarian cyst that put me in the bed for a few days while ovulating. Just found out 2 says ago from an ultrasound that it is definitely a cyst. The DR asked me if I needed anything for pain and I told him I was ok with them right now. The DR who checked me last friday who thought it was a cyst but didn't do an ultrasound said let's treat it with pain management for now and see if it goes away. So he gave me a new prescription. They both told me it was perfectly fine to take them if I needed them. I've not actually got to stop taking them the whole time because my recovery hasn't been good. I had severe bruising that took forever to go away. Then I dealt with right sided pain for a few weeks and then the left and now the cyst. I don't hardly take any during the day except for last week when I hurt all day long. Honestly, the pain I was in last week was worse than some I had right after surgery. Motrin didn't even help and even with the other pain meds, I could still feel the sharp shooting pains.
But for the most part of my recovery I had cut them way down to 1 or 2 a day and mostly 1 at night. I think as long as we wean ourselves off of it, it should be fine. I also have Interstitial cystitis which causes flare up and sometimes I have to take them for that. I read so much on here about people stopping so soon and not needing them and I knew that I did, so I asked my DR several times and he said it is perfectly fine. He knows my history of taking them in the past for pain and knows that I don't over take them or ask for too many. You shouldn't worry about it. Hope you feel better.

I am 4wks post op also and still need pain meds. During the day I am usually ok it is at night when I seem to hurt the most. Maybe it is after settling down for the day I can notice it more. I used to be real cautious about taking the meds. I did not want to get hooked on them. But sometines the pain is just unbearable. So don't feel bad, because I will continue to take them until over the counter stuff helps. I do only take them when the pain is past the 5 mark on the pain scale. Hope it gets better!
