An Emotional Wreck Anyone Else?

Had surgery 6/27 and today it hit hard. We had a kitten die this morning and I cried for 3 hours. I've been crying off and on all afternoon. I feel like a watering can. I'm an emotional rollercoaster. I'm sad about the kitten, but this is more than that.

I am ANTI-antidepressants so I won't go that route. Usually B-vitamins work, but this is pretty extreme. How long does this emotional symptom last typically?

Thanks again

Roo

How old was the kitty? If still very young perhaps there was something wrong with it and it is better off... It doesn't matter if it is a pet, a friend or family no matter what death is hard to deal with. I personally think it is harder when pets die cause we make them such an intrigual part of the family. Add in the fact of your surgery and I can see where you would be a watering can... Hang in there it will get better..

An Emotional Wreck Anyone Else?

I was an emotional wreck after my hysterectomy too, which was in March. I believe it had to do with grief even though I had no plans to use my uterus for anything. I also continued to feel down until I got on HRT that included natural progesterone. By the way, I kept my ovaries and they still are not working.

Right there with you, I cry all the time and other times I just don't feel anything, but this will pass.
I am so sorry about your kitty, even if you had not gone through the surgery it would still hurt really bad.
I am also against anti-depressents and am not on HRT ( kept 1 ovary) so I am sure its hormones trying to balance out.
Just remember, you have been through so much physical trama and your body is working to get back to a level place. It will get better, you will feel better, be calm and allow your body and mind to heal as well as mourn the loss of a beloved pet.
Please find comfort in knowing you will feel better with time.

An Emotional Wreck Anyone Else?

Hi Roo456!
The good news is.......you are NOT alone !
I felt like a total emotional basket case when I got home and for the first few weeks!
The bad news is....I kinda still have my moments! They are sporadic now (4 months since TAH) but I still have my moments! The hardest part is that I know I am having a "moment" but I can't seem to control it and it sometimes doesn't take too much to set me off either! I keep thinking this should be over by now???? I have to keep reminding myself how complex our bodies are and how much trauma we put our systems through!
We do adjust however - it will take time!
I am generally a very happy, easy going person. I am finally starting to see alot of what I call "the old me" back and you will too!
Sorry to hear about your kitten.
Take good care - and keep smiling!

An Emotional Wreck Anyone Else?

Kitten was about 8 wks old and of course the sweetest one out of the litter. We had taken in a city cat that was on a relocation program. She never did become friendly, but we fixed her and put her in the barn. Her 2/4 kittens have just slowly been going down hill. The momma had the worst case of worms I had ever seen, so I wouldn't be surprised if there was malnutrition going on there. Its just rough when you have to explain it to a 4 & 5 yr. old kids.

As for the depression, I was a water can when my husband got home still. He gave me two more b vitamins and I feel sooo much better. What I don't understand is why when you are swinging that low, can't you even help yourself. I just kinda sat in a stupor. Couldn't hold a thought just was a veg, my poor kids! Get some B vitamin in me and I am a completely different person! When I had bad mood swings when I was younger my Dr. turned me onto B vitamins. She didn't want to put me on any meds. either. I don't know why it works but it does help alot. Now if I just had someone to mother me when I do swing that low and motivate me to do something about it, before it gets so bad. I have to admit that was one of the lowest I've ever had. I guess its the nature of the beast...anyone else have good cures?

Roo;

Glad your feeling a bit better.... give that man a hug for knowing what you needed he deserves it.....

Your probably right the kitten was probably malnurished... it is a lesson for the kids that is for sure... no matter what it is one kids have to learn to face at some age...fortunately kids are resilliant and can handle it....
