Almost 5 weeks post op - spotting & scared

I will be five weeks post op this Monday, 7/11. I had a supracervical hysterctomy on 6/6. I had virtually no vaginal bleeding up to this point. Yesterday, I noticed a brown staining on my underwear. It didn't last, I tried staying off my feet. This morning after going grocery shopping (husband carried everything), I noticed the brown staining again, only darker. It seems to come and go. I also have a weird bubbling feeling in my vagina. My dr told me that since I kept my cervix, I may have a mini period every month, and I'm wondering if that is what this is. If it is, fine, if not, I'm really scared. I can't call the office until Monday. I'm wondering if I did too much walking the past few days. I don't have any cramping, just the spotting.

Has anyone else experienced this?

Almost 5 weeks post op - spotting & scared

Charly63,
I had my TAH/BSO on 2 june 05... I'm just a few days ahead of you...I had the same thing after a couple of weeks and it comes and goes... I had my post op 4 weeks after surgery and the Dr. said that it's a little more than he would want but there are a lot of things that are stitched and pulled during surgery. I still have it off and on...it's kind of orange and sometimes brownish.... today I spent hours at my sons baseball game and it started again... dr. said it would be there wether I was resting or not until I am completly healed... also said that if I was going to have an infection...??? it would have been here by the 4th week...I wouldn't worry so much... is your belly still swollen??? mine is..
hugs

Almost 5 weeks post op - spotting & scared

I had a LSH on 5/31 and had like a mini period 7/3. I was told that it was normal to have spotting every once in awhile. I am a ER nurse and worked the whole 4th weekend so I contributed it to that. I am seeing my gyn on tuesday for my f/u visit and will ask again. I had some bleeding week two after surgery and he said it was due to the cauterization of the cervix and it should subside. cant hurt to call the doctor and see.

Thank you. ladies!

Thanks so much for the responses. The spotting has stopped for now. I did notice yesterday that there were little particles in the spotting (sorry, gross, I know), but they were like tiny bits of string. I was thinking it may have been the stitches. I remember reading here awhile ago that no matter how easy a hyster is, and my dr said mine was a breeze, there is always some residual left inside that has to come out, along with some stitches, so I tried not to freak out so much over it. I will definitely call my dr tomorrow, just to be on the safe side, but thanks again for putting my mind at ease.

Oh, ladyinpink, yes, my belly is still swollen, but only on the right side. I have been having problems with that side since after the surgery, when I must have pulled a muscle or something coughing. My dr looked at it at my first post op, and said don't worry, it will go down.

I am having very similar symptoms of bleeding. I had a supracervical hyst and am in post-op week 5. No bleeding *at all* until last night and I also notice the little particles. I hope it will just subside and not return but may call the doc Monday morning.

2 wk post op spot to gush

I am in 2 wk post op for a TAH/BSO, I had about a the size of a quarter spot bleed the first day of surgery and then nothing else. Suddenly the other day I started spotting. I thought maybe I overdid it (since I am already back to work)(no lifting or anything just sitting in front of a computer all day)so I stayed home and in bed all day.

Feeling better the next day I went back to work and felt great. Then in the afternoon I got a lot of cramping (like my worst period) and when I used the restroom, there was no longer the brown light stains but bright red blood everywhere.

My dr saw me right away and even sent me over to the hospital for extensive tests to be sure I wasn't bleeding internally. 5 hours later it seems that I had a blood clot that broke itself loose and was exiting the only way it could. I kinda felt foolish for being such a worry wort, but the truth is now I know.

If your stressed out and worried it is something serious call and make an appointment to confirm its nothing.

Started again

I started spotting again today a little. Since so many of you have had similar, I'm not going to worry about it, but I will check it out with the dr tomorrow. Thanks for putting my mind at ease.

I've read somewhere within this site (or maybe it's in the book) about the stitches dissolving at 3-5 weeks. I made a mental note to myself that I'd likely start feeling like doing more about then - so want to be sure to take it easy then. The mini-periods you might get with keeping your cervix might account for the rest of it. However by all means - call in to your Dr. and talk to him (or nurse) ya just never know...and if it's to be expected, at least you won't have the worry. Hope it all works out for you.
