need advice asap

I am going to have laser surgery on my cervix in a couple hours. This is the second time they have found cancerous cells on my cervix in four years and I am thinking about having a hyst. I am getting nervous, (the laser hurts!!) and have forgotten all the things I should ask my doc. I am 29, have two kids, and have a bleeding disorder that is managable. If anyone has any sujestions please post them soon. Thank-you all.

Hi bunni,

I was about your age when I had to have a cone biopsy, I know this can be scary.

Let's see if I can remember some questions:

How long will I have to wait for the pathology results? Should we schedule a follow-up appointment to discuss the results now?

How long will I have to rest following this procedure? Are there any restrictions on physcial activity, if so, how long? When is it ok to resume sex with my hubby?

How should I feel after this procedure? Will I have cramping? Spotting or bleeding? What is expected and when should I call you?

Can I get a copy of my pathology report?

If I were you I'd want to sit down and talk with my doctor in his office once the pathology report comes back. It's easier to think when you are dressed and sitting in a chair vs. being on an exam table. I'd ask how the procedure went, for instance how much tissue had to be taken, and I'd want to know and understand exactly what the pathology report says before considering future options.

I hope all goes well for you today!

I had a cone biopsy and laser surgery of my cervix in 1988, and I have had good pap smears ever since. I needed a SAH due to being severely anemic and heavy bleeding due to a gigantic fibroid. I agree, ask all of the above questions with your doctor. With my experience of having a Class 3 pap, reason for the cone and laser, I had good reports afterwards. Good Luck is being sent your way!

Hugs,
Kathleen

laser went well

Thank you all for replying. The laser went well, I had a different doc than I did last time and it hurt a lot less this time. He doesn't think that I should have a hyst for the cancer even though it will probably come back, but he does think a hyst would be a good idea because of my bleeding disorder. Childbirth is considered life threatening for me and my monthlies are no picinic. I've had to be admitted to hopital twice for loss of blood during bad monthlies. My husband printed out a list of questions to bring with me and he came in with me so he could remember what I forgot. Based on what the doctor told me I think that I'll be getting surgery after Christmas. The only thing that bugs me is that he didn't seem to have a very good bedside manner. He said that a breast reduction (I'll be having one in Sept.) doesn't really hurt, it's just uncomfortable, and that a hyst isn't major surgery. Which in the scheme of things I guess it isn't but it's pretty major to me. any how thanks again.
