Comfortable Post-op Clothes
Hey LIW!
I hope you check the post-op boards ever once in a while. They were all talking about not being able to get into their jeans. Apparently for quite a while. I guess I too thought after a couple of weeks I would be able to get in mine. Well, I'm going to plan B and I'm going to start thinking about what I can wear. Some of their suggestions were: sweat pants or leggins
I thought about overalls, skirts or casual day dress, how about those stretch capri pants!
I know gowns will be the dress for the day for a while. I would assume. Any other suggestions?

Comfortable Post-op Clothes
Multiples. They are a brand of clothes that are a "one size fits all" and so the pants are loose with elastic waists, the tops and dresses are BIG. I purchased a few when I knew I was going in for surgery....
WHICH IS TOMORROW!!!! (smile).
Usually they sell Multiples through a "party system" kind of like tupperware, but I was able to pick some up off of eBay.

Comfortable Post-op Clothes
Once I felt like getting dressed again, I pretty much lived in stretch leggings and button-up shirts. It hurt a bit to lift my arms enough to get a shirt over my head, so button-ups were the way to go!
For the first week or so at home, I lived in men's pajamas. Two reasons: one, if you're in pajamas, people remember that you just had MAJOR surgery and you can't do anything; two, I was too lazy to get dressed!
Men's p.j.'s were great because the large, drawstring waists came up well above my vertical incision. Also, the tops were button-up, so I didn't have to get my arms up. I bought the smallest size I could find!
Good luck!

Comfortable Post-op Clothes
I am six weeks post-op today and only my "fat' jeans fit me. I bought some pants made by ModRobes (found in teenager stores) they are VERY loose with a drawstring waistband. They are soooo comfy and with a large top and running shoes, I look rather like a 'skater dude'. My daughter told me I look cute. I guess cute is a good look to aim for right now - it beats fat, pregnant or (heaven forbid) frumpy. I also find that my denim overalls fit quite comfortably but they were big to start with.

Comfortable Post-op Clothes
I wore mainly sweat pants and either large t-shirts or comfy sweat shirts for the first week. We had our 21st anniversary when I was 8 days post op and I got out my jeans and was able to wear them just fine. I have them on today, which I am at 2 weeks post op now. I have a horizontal bikini line incision, so I don't know if that makes a difference or not. I'm very comfy in my jeans. I am still wearing my big undies though. They just seem to be more comfortable than the others.

LIW...
Ladies in Waiting....
Remember to bring comfortable clothes- big sweat pants, or drawstring waist pants, to the hospital for your ride home. When I was discharged I realized that I only had the pants with me that I wore when I was admitted. I couldn't even get them past my hips, because my stomach was so swollen. My husband had to go home and bring my sweats. Also bring flat shoes or sneakers. The best of luck to all of you.

Comfortable Post-op Clothes
You can see the post on post-op about clothes, but it really has to do with what you like...I have 2 sizes of Dockers that have been great, I bought one pair of pants that are almost one size, some like to wear undies some don't, I found that it helped, now my big undies have been washed and dryed to the point they are like the others.
Just find things that don't make you use to much energy.
Slide on shoes for sure

11 days post-op....am wearing sweats or other comfy clothes!
Hi, I just had to post in here....I'm 11 days post op and am wearing sweat pants or leggings around the house or if I can feel comfortable all day.....I stay in my pjs. I did wear my overalls out to the dr. yesterday and I was asked twice how far along pregnant I was......let me tell you that was an uncomfortable situation for me and the persons asking, and my dh just said "Shes not, she just had a TOTAL hysterectomy 10 days ago." I learned my leson the hard way about my overalls.....they will stay in the closet until my tummy is back down to size. I will tell ya'll that at least in my experience, swelly belly is much worse than I anticipated. I actually had to wear some of dh's clothes to the dr. last week. I am having a few complications though, and this may be why I am having a bigger "swellybelly", but still putting on dh's clothes to go to the dr. didn't make me feel any better. So ya'll may want to go ahead and buy 2 pair of TOO BIG sweats, just in case the laundry doesn't get done in time. Good luck to all you LIW.......Amy

Comfortable Post-op Clothes
Big undies are a must. I always where the cotton high cuts and just got them 2 sizes bigger. I can tell you the nurses were impressed that I had something that fit. I'm 2 weeks post op today I bought a pair of lounging PJ's that I wear all the time and I have a few night shirts as well. I rarely get dressed these days except when I have too. I found only two of my casual dresses fit me so I went out the other day with my mom and picked up some rather nice pull up pants with a draw string at Sam's Club. I can even dress them up a bit with a nice top that I don't have to tuck in. I see my belly going no where soon. Good luck to you !

Comfortable Post-op Clothes
I'm 15 days post op, and I have been wearing big sweatshirts and leggings or loose sweats. When I went to get my staples out I found a velour set I had...tunic top and elastic waist pants that matched...that worked great. I agree that you don't want to look too put together, or people do forget you're still recovering!
The big panties are the best...I bought a few pair that are three sizes too big and they've shrunk a bit to where they're perfect. I look like I have on a onesie! But who cares...they cover the incision comfortably. I will try my denim overalls soon....I've been very lucky to avoid the swelly belly, so I hope they fit! Just go with comfortable....whatever makes you feel at ease.
