Hematoma???
Has anyone had a problem about 2 weeks post-op with an increase in pain and then told to get an ultrasound to look at a hematoma. I read up on what it is and they say it is a collection of blood in the surgery site that typically needs to be syrgically drained. I am scared I was doing so well. If anyone knows anymore about this please let me know...

Hematoma???
I have absolutely no knowledge to pass along, but wanted you to know that I am thinking about you. I'm glad that you called your doctor when something didn't feel right, and I'm glad that your doctor is checking it out just to be safe. Don't panic about "surgically drained" until you know that it is a hematoma that needs that procedure, ok? No sense in putting the cart before the horse.
and please write back and let us know how the doctor's appointment goes, ok?
Thinking of you - Fawn

Hematoma???
It seems from what I have read on this site, that sometimes Dr's allow time to see if the body absorbs the blood. Perhaps it has to do with the location and the amount of pain it is causing? I did have a hematoma that drained itself vaginally in my case. I think I may have had one internally around the cuff of my vagina, (judging by the pain I experienced and how long it lasted), but never had an ultrsound to verify it. I think it is good your Dr is checking... and willing to do something about it! I have a "give it time" sort of Dr. It can be difficult at times waiting and being in pain.
I hope you feel better real soon!

Hematoma???
Hi - I am about 10 weeks post-hyst and 9 weeks post-incision draining. I say that because I too had pain, mine in the left side at one week post-hyst. I went to the doc's office and she opened the incision to drain the hematoma (at least that is what she said it was). From then, my incision has remained opened and my fiance and my mother have very diligently and lovingly changed packing twice a day (there was about a 3-week time period I was placed on a VAC)....My incision is now almost closed up - I've got about an inch to go and I'll be healed. It's been a very long road that has required patience from all involved. Thankfully, I didn't require surgery and my OB/GYN Surgeon was smart enough to send me to a wound care specialist to oversee the healing of my incision after she had opened it.
Best wishes to you for no pain and no further surgery !!!

Hematoma???
Hi Sister! Yes I was diag with a hematoma at week 2. It was right in the middle of my to incision sites. And it would make things very very tight in there. You could feel the lump it made. I didn't have the ultrasound. So I am glad that your dr is checking. But my dr was right and he had me stay in bed (which is annoying at the 2 week mark) and using a heating pad on it,,,ALOT. It was the slowest healing thing I have ever experienced. But it DID go away. When I look back on it, I think that I was over doing. I was following the usual suggestions of a little walking and etc. But in my case there was alot of internal organs shifting and I'm certain my body couldnt handle it. After I went back to complete bedrest and the heating pad I began to feel much better.
Best wishes to you on your recovery!

Hematoma???
I have a hematoma where my right ovary was and it is very painful. They are waiting it out to see if my body will reabsorb it and I'm on antibiodics. The ultrasound I had showed it was 3cm X 3cm, I'm thinking around the size of a large grape. No mention of surgically removing it YET, although I've been told that was pretty much normal procedure for one, but my Dr hasn't mentioned it. I hope it dissolves ON IT's OWN..because I'm just not up to any more surgeries! No more IV's ...no more incisions...I want to recover! Oh well. Good luck and I hope your's dissolves on it's own as well. And yes, it's very painful. I feel like I still have my right ovary there full of endo. the pain is so bad. But it's not all day, just on and off and tolerable.

Hematoma???
I had 2 hematomas - one was a small one on top of the vaginal cuff. The other was about the size of grapefruit...on the right side where they had to do a lot of scraping to get the ovary off of the bowel where it was securely adhesed to. The big one was interfering with my ureter causing pain and problems going to the bathroom.
Both hematomas were diagnosed via a vaginal ultrasound about 2 weeks post-op. My doc sent me to the ER for an IVP scan to make sure that the pocket of fluid was indeed blood and not caused by a tear in the ureter (which was also caught up in the right ovary mess). Once they were sure that it was not urine and was blood, the doc took the conservative approach of giving it time to resorb. Within a few days, the urinary problems began to clear up but the pain/pressure stayed there for about 2 more weeks. The hematoma is slowly resorbing so it will not need intervention.
This was just a minor pain in the rear along the path to recovery. Hope yours turns out to be the same...just a blip on the radar and that your recovery progresses uneventfully for here forward.

Hematoma???
I had a large haematoma 3 weeks after surgery. The bruise was across my stomach, about 45cm x 12cm, and was very hard and swollen. My doctor also suggested waiting to see if the blood would re-absorb. Five days later my scar re-opened and the blood/fluid starting oozing out. I was re-admitted to hospital but they decided to let it drain naturally. This took 2 weeks! I have ended up with adhesions but I do not know if that was to do with the haematoma or the original op. Take it easy!

Hematoma???
I also had one on the cuff. I popped a stitch at 1 1/2 weeks and hemmoraghed (sp?) BAD! Huge clot came with it. Did CT scan and vag. ultrasound. He sent me home on bed rest for one week... and said I would prob. do it again! Ended up with vag. cuff cellulitis from surgery. Only 1 % of us will get it. Yay me! I had heavy duty pain before the stitch popped. The bleeding needed to happen and he didn't have to drain it. He did tell me how it goes though... he puts you under again (or epidural) and pops a couple of stitches and lets it drain and your done. The longest thing seems to be the prep and after you will feel tons better so he says. I guess he does it alot.
Let us know,
Deb

Hematoma???
movercas,
is your pain at your surgical site? While my vaginal hematoma was obviously at a surgical site, the large hematoma I developed was deep in my belly - couldn't have been drained by the popping of a stitch. The doc didn't give me details but said that draining the one in my belly would be a piece of cake if it became necessary but that the ones not at the incision sites usually resorb themselves.
When do you find out about your situation? Let us know how it goes. Best wishes.
