Hair Loss Anyone?

Hi Maruca,

I did have some hair loss. Mine started before my hysterectomy. Were you anemic before your surgery? Sometimes that can cause hair loss. I also took Depo Provera and it can cause your hair to thin. I've read that some people think the anesthesia can cause it.

Mine hair loss was not too bad and it stopped within a few weeks after surgery. I think my hair is still a little thinner than it was but my husband says it isn't.

I started to notice that I was losing hair when I was having a hard time getting the stray hairs off my hands when I washed my hair. I hope your loss is not bad and that it gets better soon. I'm not too terribly vain but I think I might even take some drug therapy to keep my hair.

Best of luck,
Rebecca

Hair Loss Anyone?

Maruca,
I'm only 3-1/2 weeks post-op and have not experienced any hair loss yet, but a couple of months after each of my 4 children were born, I did go through a major shedding (I thought I would go bald, I lost so much hair!) Fortunately, I didn't go bald and it did grow back. It did mean that for a while I had a lot of short hair close to my hairline that looked strange because the rest of my hair is very long. I think it is hormone related. I expect I'll have that again in a month or two. I just wonder what color the new hair will be (brown or grey)! At least my beautician has worked out just the right color for me to keep it brown all over!

Hair Loss Anyone?

I am almost 4 weeks post-op, and am still shedding. I could quite literally take my fingers and run them through my hair and pull out what appeared to be clumps (thank goodness they weren't) I shed badly after having both my kids as well though. Probably stress on the body. Another thing that could be causing it still for me now though is the fact that I dyed my hair a little over a week ago. hehehe!

Hair Loss Anyone?

Hi I had my hyst 12-13 04.
I lost alot of hair for awhile. When I talked to my doc about it,he said it was from the stress of the operation and also the stuff they put you to sleep with. It will get better with time. Theres not to much you can do about it. Thats what my doc said.

Hair Loss Anyone?

I am also almost 8 weeks post op and I have noticed recently that my hair is falling out, too. I'm glad I read these posts, because I was going to call my doctor and tell her I need to up my throid med, but it appears that hair loss after surgery is normal. Phew!!
