Date is getting closer!
I am having my surgery on Tuesday, March 27th. I will be having abdominal surgery due to scar tissue from previous surgeries and two c-sections. I am scared to death of general anethesia, so I will be having a spinal. I was ok a few days ago, but now am getting scared. I don't know what to expect after the surgery. Will it be just like having a baby, except you take nothing home afterwards?

Date is getting closer!
I know how scared you are - I was terrified! The last week prior to surgery was definitely the most difficult by far - recovery was a breeze after that!
I have not had children, so can't give you personal experience, but from all the women I've spoken to and read about here on this site, having a TAH is very different from having a C-section.
When you have a C-section, the only thing that comes out is a baby, which is SUPPOSED to come out. With a TAH, an organ is being removed. This involves much more cutting and suturing, so the recovery is longer. A couple of women that I work with who had both were REALLY surprised at how much longer it took them to recovery from the hysterectomy. Unfortunately, they didn't have hystersisters to prepare them!
And try not to think of it as taking nothing home with you, because you are taking home a new you! If you are anything like me, you will feel so wonderful once you recovery, you'll feel like a new person!
Hang in there - you WILL get through this.

I am in the same boat
My surgery is the same day as yours. I am going out of my mind. I get emotional then I get excited. I have heard so many stories of different experience and the only one we will really understand is going to be our own experience. I had gall bladder surgery a year ago this coming July and have been told that a hysterectomy is a walk in the park compared to this.
I will be praying for all my "hyster sisters" the day (and everyday) but trust me March 27th I will be praying hard that your recovery will be fine.
I also look at it as being the "perfect woman" I mean I won't have anymore periods no more P.M.S. can have sex anytime (hubby loves that) what more can you ask for? LOL
Take Care

i am also going in on the 27th, have to be there at 6am, go into surgery at 730. i find myself getting very nervous!!!! i had an ovary and tube removed 17 years ago, same kind of procedure and all as this is going to be so i have a CLUE what to expect, i had emergency surgery last time and had no time to even worry-- i am sure i would be a fruit basket right now if it were not for this site and these wonderful ladies to listen to and talk to, this is a God send site. i will be praying for you and all the others who go in on the 27th, from the time i wake up until i get my sleepy shot, i will wonder if you feel like me alot during my recovery i am sure. feel free to email me during our recovery if you want, we can share notes!!! lol. stay calm and when your healing time iis finished you will feel like a new woman i am sure. tena

Date is getting closer!
It looks like there a quite a few of us having surgery
next week. I have mine on the 28th, and I second the
opinion that these ladies who are LIW or those who
have already been crowned are very reassuring.
Without this site, I would be so much more nervous
than I am today. It is amazing how many women have
successfully had their hysterectomy and recovered well.
Let's hope and pray that we also have those
successsful surgeries, uneventful ones, and a speedy
recovery.

Date is getting closer!
I had a TAH/BSO on March 8th. I also had a C-Section with my last son 16 years ago. My experience is that its very similar to a C-section. The pain afterwards is the same and recovery seems to also be going the same. I have had no complications. I too was scared to death I even had a panic attack the night before. All the posts I read here prior were all true. Waiting is the WORST part. My best wishes to you.

My surgery will be April 2, 2001
I have also had 3 c-sections and was under the impression it was like having a c-section. I will have a complete hyst. and will be cut on the bikini line as I was with my c-sections!! I am concerned about the after effects?? Any information would be helpful!!
Thanks,
Tracy

c-sections
i had tah and bladder susp on march 08. after 2 c-sections the only sameness i found was i knew what to expect from insison. i found it to be alittle more than c-sec . recovery is alittle slower so make sure you take it easier. drink lots of fluids cause you remomeber those body function problems after babies. well they show up again . be fortunate that you are more aware of what you will be having. take care and remember everyone's recovery is a little different. we are all with you.
