hormones...yeast infection?

Hi...

A few days ago I started bio-identical HRT. Now I have a raging yeast infection. At least, I think that's what it is. Has this happened to anyone?

Also, last week, I discovered I had "tape erosion"... I'd had a TOT repair for a slight urethra prolapse and stress incontinence. About 1 inch of the tape they used came through my vaginal wall. The doc trimmed it off last Wed, put on some silver nitrate, and said that the repair should still hold. There *was* swelling and infection, but he didn't want to give me an antibiotic, because he didn't want me to get a yeast infection. He said he'd seen this happen once before and he's going to start using a different brand of tape. But, he's called be 2X since Wed to check on me. He's a *super* nice guy, but all this attention is making me suspiscious! He called me yesterday from a "Leaky Bladder" conference! I told him I thought I had a yeast infection and he said it was OK to treat it with monistat.

It surely does hurt! And, tomorrow, I'm scheduled for a spinal epidural block. I have severe and chronic back pain, and we are going to see if this will help.

I'm just kinda feeling overwhelmed!

What are the symptoms that make you think you have a yeast infection? It may be irritation from the erosions. You might want your doctor to do a swab to make sure it is actually yeast. I'm glad you have frequent contact with your doctor. Hang in there.

Thanks, Margo...

(Another Margot!)

My symptoms are a white, creamy (and sometimes chunky--but some silver nitrate is still making its way out) discharge, and burning and irritation. I used monistat last night, so now I can't tell what is what. But, I am having trouble peeing again, and noticed that I'm swollen internally...in fact, I used the suppository form of monistat and it actually shot back out the first time I tried putting it in . I had to push it up very high with my finger, past my swollen area.

For this injection tomorrow, I'm not supposed to have any infections. Would yeast or lingering infection from the tape erosion count?

I suppose I should call my gyn in the morning to ask if this epidural is OK. If I had to cancel, it would be the second time, and we've had to be creative finding childcare for our kids as it is. My gyn is an hour away, and this spinal clinic is an hour and 45 minutes away. In opposite directions, of course.

Thanks for your help...

Those are good questions for your doctor. Please give him a call. It sounds like a yeast infection, but it could be other things as well. The only way to really know is for him to take a look and take a look at it under the microscope. I hope you get feeling better really soon. Margo
