Am I the only one to experience this?!?!?

Hi Everyone,

I am 6 weeks and 2 days out (June 10th, but who's counting!) Around week 4 I had the worst upper ab pains/bloating which I beleive were gas related. It sent me to the emergency room (better safe than sorry) where my Dr. did a CAT scan and X-ray and usual bloodwork. Thank goodness everything was OK! I was taking progesterone (15mg 2xday) before and about 2 weeks after surgery. My doctor said progesterone can cause bloating and gas which I never knew. Have completely stopped and am drinking warm prune juice every morning, drinking peppermint tea, and taking 1 colace gel cap per day. I have also started walking on my treadmill at about 2-3 MPH- - very easy for about 35 mins. The gas/bloating in my upper ab- -right under my ribs seemed to go away and today I woke up and guess what yes- - I had the same feelings back in my upper abdomen- -bloating and gas!! Not as bad as before, but wondering if anyone else (please tell me there are some of you that have this!) has this issue at 6,8, etc. weeks out and what are you doing to pass more gas. The days that I am "tooting" I feel that I don't have pain and bloating in my upper stomach. I had my docotor delay my time back to work to 8 weeks as I hope this dreades gas or whatever it is goes away for good! Any advice would be great.

Thanks!
Sandy

Am I the only one to experience this?!?!?

Sorry, Sandy. I had a LAVH on June 10th and although my upper abdomen swells at the end of the day I can't say I have any discomfort. They say everybody handles this differently and maybe you will find someone you can relate to. Good Luck and hang in there!

Am I the only one to experience this?!?!?

Hi Sandy,
Have you ruled out some other source such as a bad reaction to somthing you're eating? Maybe you have developed a sensitivity to something. Maybe you could try keeping a food journal for a few days and see if you can trace the problems to something you've eaten.
I didn't experience it, but maybe someone else will see this and have something more to share. Good luck with it. I hope you can soon find some answers.

Am I the only one to experience this?!?!?

Hi Rita,

I am trying to watch real closely what I eat. I am trying a diet around IBS, so hopefully this will finally go away. It seems that when i have a bowel movement and pass gas (posterior) it does not bother me. It almost feels like there is trapped gas/and other things in my upper stomach. I have to go back to work in just 10 days and I hope this is gone. Many people (not on this site) have told me since I had an SAH with severe endo that my intestines and stomach function will take some time to get back to normal, but this is riduculous! I even wonder if the muscles in my upper ab from walking are somehow affecting my system in getting back to nomral. Thanks for your thoughts!

I know exactly what you're talking about. I'll be 6 weeks tomorrow and I had that trouble last week. I also have acid reflux and IBS, and I determined that it was directly related to something I ate. I have added a digestive enzyme supplement to my daily regimen (I take it right before I eat) and it seems to help.

My entire digestive system has slowed down since surgery and NOTHING is working right yet, but there are things you can take. Have you had these problems in the past? You said you were following an IBS diet, but IBS diets are NOT one size fits all. I have suffered from IBS for years, and different foods effect people differently. One list may say "eat lots of fiber", my gastro doc told me to avoid lots of fiber. Also anything acidic and/or carbonated can make you feel bloated in your stomach.

I hope this helps. Let me know if I can answer anymore questions.
