Scared to death...please help

In Sept of 04, I went ahead with a TVH and was told that I was cancer free due to the removal of both ovaries. I am now being told that there is a very good chance that the cancer had spread and that I am going to have to go through this fight all over again. I don't think I am emotionally strong enough to handle this again. Does anyone have any advice for me. I just came to terms with the words 'cancer survivor'. I don't think I can wear the title 'cancer patient' again.

Hi blondie~

I am so very sorry you are having to face this scare.

Two questions:
1. Did they suspect cancer in 2004, and where?
2. Who did your initial surgery? (what type of DR (gyno or gyno/onc)

I know this is harder to do than it is for me to say, but try not to panic just yet. I just went through a similar scare with two other sisters...guess what...
all went well and was totally benign!

I want you to know that I am sending well wishes and many prayers your way that this will be yet another false scare.

Hi Blondie--never waste a good panic. Take the emotion and put it into learning and working with your doctor. Who told you and on what basis--a CA125 or other test? A CT scan? Another Pap smear? Symptoms? Be sure you get to a gynecologic oncologist with your reports and tests from the previous surgery and let that doctor follow up.

in answer to your questions,
1 They confirmed ovarian cancer in 2004, said it was stage 1 and decided that TVH was best option.
2 A GYN did the surgery as the military does not like to pay for you to have a surgery with a specialist if they think that it can be done by a GYN. The military medical system is stupid!!!

Blondie~

Again, I am so sorry for you in what you are going through now.
Would it be possible for you to see a gyno/onc NOW that you had already been DX'd with ovca in 2004?

Perhaps if you insisted that with what you are possibly facing now, they will know that a gyno/onc is your best option????
Can't hurt to try and I wish you all the best.

I agree with the sisters! Dont waste a good panic. Its hard emotionally to hear the word cancer, I think it must be harder to hear the word reoccurance. You fought the good fight once. You can do it again. God will give you what you need to fight this beast again, if thats what it is. Get with a specialist, and go over your options with them. Let us know, and good luck!

Dear ((Blondie))
I am sorry you are so worried and can understand this since you believe the cancer may be back or has spread.
Pls remember you were strong and made it through your surgery for cancer and pls try to heed Ellen's sage advice not to waste a good panic.
I still am confused as to who told you the cancer may be back and/ or has spread. May I ask if a doctor told you this or if not why are you thinking this? Also, are you being seen regularly for follow-up monitoring since you did have cancer? I would hope the military encourages someone who has had a cancer dx to have follow-up doctor visits, etc.
