hormone levels post op

I had my ovaries removed 14 months ago and have just had my hormone levels tested. I have to see my GP tomorow because I have to have my estrogen increased as it is apparently not enough. The letter from the Gynae says it is 142pmol/l. Does anyone know of a site where I can find out about appropriate levels of estrogen etc.
Thanks.

Hi!

How do you feel with your level where it is now? That's one good indicator of how you are doing, and a pretty accurate one, too! Not everyone will feel good at the same level because we're all different. There are a lot of symptoms we can experience when our levels are not in balance. Here is a link to symptoms common for too much/too little estrogen, progesterone and testosterone.

Am I understanding correctly that you still have your uterus? Are you also taking progesterone? When the uterus is intact you shouldn't be on estrogen only therapy. If you aren't using progesterone, be sure to ask your doctor about that hormone as part of your therapy.

Different labs can have different ranges, so it's difficult to say where exactly the number you mention falls. It is a good idea to get a copy of your results. And to ask the doctor to intrepret the results for you in a way that you can understand what the numbers mean. My doctor always has a copy ready for me and we go over the results together.

I agree with April Dawn, in that the results of your test shouldn't be the final determining factor in your hrt. The ranges are usually fairly broad, and we will all not feel the same way at the same level. Testing should be used as a tool to go hand in hand with your symptoms.

thanks for the replies. you asked how i am feeling......how long have you got?? I have not felt fine since the op and this is the 3rd lot of HRT I am on! I had 2 lots of normally prescribed combo HRT but they drove me doo lally and depressed. so I sought advice and went onto bio-identical (which I buy from the internet as my GP does not prescribe it) and have seperate estrogen and progesterone. My Gynae has also requested a scan in my letter as she does not know how the progesterone has worked with my womb.....the nightmare never ends. I am anxious and down trodden
