4 months out and finally feeling good!

I'm just past my 4 month anniversary and I can finally say I've turned the corner. I'm getting my energy back, I'm sleeping throught the night, my abdomen is almost back to normal (it was never flat), and I'm getting back to my normal routine.

For those of you who are wondering if you'll ever feel better, just hang in there. A month ago I felt the same way. I can wear most of my clothes now. People keep asking if I've lost weight. I actually gained a few pounds since the surgery, but my 5 month pregnancy looking stomach is gone.

My next Dr appt is 8/8. The only problems I'm still having are itching near the incision and on and off back pain.

I agree with so many of you that said you don't regret having the hyst. My quality of life is much improved. I hadn't realized how many concessions I had made to accomodate the pain, excess bleeding, etc.

Thanks to all of you who've shared your stories. This site has been a Godsend.

4 months out and finally feeling good!

At 3 months postop this past Wednesday, I must say I definately agree with you. The plusses far outweigh the negatives for having this hysterectomy. I went to Texas this past weekend for a family reunion, and not having to wonder if I was going to "get it", not having to pack dark clothing just "in case" and not having to pack a suitcase full of pads and Depends (yep, I needed both for the heavy days - super overnighters with wings AND Depends)was such a treat. I still marvel at how light my pocketbook is without my emergency supply of pads.

I still swell during the day, and Ive begun to itch by the incision, and still am sore and numb in certain spots, but I know it will get better for me too. Hang in there everyone!!! It's worth it!!

That really encourages me girls, thank you.I am 5 1/2 weeks post op and will be going back to work in probably a week but the thought scares me to death. Can either of you tell me how it was the first few weeks back? I just still feel so drained and achy whenever Im walking around doing anything much at all. your messages show me there really is light at the end of all this.Thanks-Marsha
