Relieved but scared!!!

I have just been advised by my doc that I require a hysterectomy.... A part of me is relieved as I bleed so much, but a part of me is terrified for fear of the after effects. I am keeping my ovaries, so I don't have to go through menopause. He thinks my recovery time should be minimal as I have had three C-sections and recovered amazinly afterwards. I would like all the advise I can get... my emotions are on a mile long rollercoaster ride right now.

There are alot of interesting threads here loaded with information from the other sisters..also you can check the "checkpoints" up at the top of the screen. It's good to be well informed before it happens, so you know what to expect and what to take with you, and questions to ask...

I think it's pretty normal to be scared before any surgery. You did'nt say what kind of hyst. you're having, but if you had 3 C Sections, my guess would be a TAH.
I had 2 C Sections and the TAH inscision was in the same place as the C Sections. You already know the drill about getting out of bed, etc so you will do fine. For me the pain was a little worse than with the C Sections, but pain meds helped and I did'nt have to come home a take care of a newborn
I'm 8 weeks post op now and soooo glad I had it done!

I felt exactly the same way...relieved but scared all at the same time.

From my experience, I am happy that I did it. I was not so sure in the beginning...but, I will be 5 mo. post op tomorrow and feel soooo much better now. I can truly say, I now am beginning to feel normal again. This surgery and recovery truly whipped my butt! I know that I still have a ways to go before I am 100%, but in the end, I feel it was worth it.

I'm feeling exactly as you are right now, as I'm scheduled for the 15th Aug.....! The most worrying part for me is recovery post op. I too am feeling that emotional rollercoaster - not sure why, and I can't seem to get my thoughts and emotions into prespective.

Lots of deep breaths - and some alone time might help. Wishing you all the best.
