Going crazy at home

I had my surgery 2 weeks ago and I'm going crazy at home. My DH is back to work full time and I am so frustrated that I can't do the things I used to love, exercise , gardening and i am so lonely!!! It is so hard to be here all day with no one to talk to. I'm reading and walking a little but I am so emotional and I only lost my uterus! I though by now that I would be so much better (Had LSH on 7/19) but I can tell very quickly when I've done to much. We leave for vacation on saturday and I'm worried that i'm going to be so frustrated that i'm going to ruin everyone elses time.

I know how you feel

Dear Patti,

I had my LAVH one day before you had your surgery. I still have my ovaries but cervix and uterus is gone. Staying at home is killing me as well. I worked 5 days a week fulltime and miss the interaction with friends. I'm here at home with my children who are 6 and 5. I feel frustrated as well. I have so much energy when I wake up, but I have to remember that I can still only do so much. I can't even drive the car for another 6 days!!! This website has helped me tremendously. Everyone here has so much info to share and I've learned more here than I would have anywhere else. I think you'll be just fine on your trip...just remember to relax and take time for yourself. Hopefully everyone will understand your situation and be helpful to you in your time to heal. Before you know it you'll be all better and feeling great....and perhaps wishing you had the time like this again so you could relax.....just not with the pain though!!!!!

Enjoy your trip and best wishes in your recovery!!!!

Going crazy at home

I had some serious cabin fever and it was the worst at about 2 wks. I couldn't drive till week 3. Not only was I freaking out staring at the walls, but I felt bad constantly having to ask hubby to stop and grab this or please take me to get that. It helped a little to walk around outside but just driving to the ice house was a big treat for me! I understand the frustration and feeling cooped up!
I'm sure you'll be great on your vacation. Being out of the house and doing something you want to do will help a lot. And a change in scenery will perk you right up! Good luck.

Going crazy at home

I had cabin fever too, how I handled it was reading, surfing the internet (LOTS of POGO) and for the first time in a long time I used up all of my cell phone minutes. I called friends just to talk, some I hadn't heard from in a while so it was nice just to gab.

Then when I could drive, I ran away every other day just to get coffee or to the store and buy one or two items. Sometimes breakfast or lunch.

Going crazy at home

Patty,
I am almost 7 weeks post-op now, but boy do I remember the boredom and loneliness! DH had to go back to work on my 4th day post-op and I stayed home alone. I couldn't ride in a car until after 2 weeks and then I could finally drive at 3. I had a few days where I was really weepy due to being so bored and lonely. I totally understand what you are going through. That part was very hard for me. Like you, I missed gardening and just interaction with people.

As long as you are feeling okay, I think the vacation may be just what you need. You will probably feel so much better just to get out of the house. I know it helped me tremendously. The waiting and then the boredom of recovery were the hardest parts for me. But it does get better!

Good luck to you and I hope you have fun on your trip.

Going crazy at home

Hi Patti,
I had my LSH on 7/19 also. Removed everything due to prior abnormal paps and hyperplasia, pelvic pain and horrible heavy bleeding from fibroids. My Dr. said I had several and the largest was the size of an orange. Boy, can I relate! Can't do much and when you do your to tired. I have my 2 week post op appt. tomorrow. So I get to get out. Its about a 2 hour drive each way. I'm hoping I can go back to work part time next week before the bills start coming in. All I can say is everyone says it will get better and thats what keeps me going though its really rough to do so at times. This site has helped me tremendously. Take care and let me know how you are doing.

Going crazy at home

Hi Patty,

Cabin fever, yeah I think most of us who aren't doing to bad and are left home alone go through this. I was going just nuts and felt the walls closing in even though I'm surrounded by so much countryside. I couldn't even go walking on the farm as we live on a very steep hill and hubby banned me from it. Hard enough to walk it when your well! By the time I was able to drive at 2 weeks I was off visiting friends and that certainly helped. I also surfed the net, chatted online, did the ironing, folded washing and washed dishes. A vacation sounds good so long as you take it easy and I'm sure you won't spoil it for anyone.

Take care..........Karen

I'm also going crazy

I had my tah bikini line.My problem is I live in a apartment building. My DH works mon. throw Fri. 8 hrs a day.We also have a 6 yr old that is very active.I cant wait to start driving she is starting to drive me nuts Im not getting as much as rest as should and I no that I have been doing more then what I should be doing. The closest park is at lest 5-6 blocks away.I dont feel comfy walking to it all bye myself with my 6 yr old.Just incase itt got to much for me.Its been to hot and humid out side to just sit out for her to play out side also. She has been so bord just cause we cant go places .Its also been to hot just to even try and walk around out side for short times. So we are trapped in the house till DH gets home then poor Dh is so tired also.Cant wait till school starts then atlest she will have something to do and get out and be with other kids also.We dont have any other kids around us from what I have seen so far.So that even makes it harder.

Going crazy at home

Thanks so much for all the support. It helps so much to hear your feeling being heard. I think that's the part that men don't get. We don't need them to "fix" how were feeling, although that would be nice What we really need is for someone to REALLY listen and acknowledge how we feel. I'm feeling better everyday and hopefully on Friday when I see my Dr. I'll find out what I can and can't do.
Thanks again,
Patty
