Hi B'way,
Before I started chemo a fashionable friend suggested I get a really short hair cut rather than buzzing all my hair off. If I had it to do over again I might at least try that.
My doctor told me about an ovca carbo/taxol patient who never lost her hair. She started out with a ponytail and finished with a ponytail.
It might be worth trying.
Hugs,
Margot

(((broadwayfan)))
My scalp was very tingly and sore before it started shedding.
I also got my hair cut very short before chemo so that the shedding would be less dramatic.
Remember.....most of us have all been thru this. It's not fun to lose your hair, but definetly better than the alternative. Mine has grown back in about 3 inches now. It is very "virgin" hair. Hasn't been overprocessed..it's really soft and healthy feeling.
Hang in there...and post whenever you need to vent

When I was hairless and it started to bother me I would list in my journal the advantages of being bald.
Such as,
Very easy to get out of the shower, towel dry your head, and off you go. No curling irons, etc.
Also, you can change your hair color with just a wig change.
There are many more advantages to being bald.
The most important thing to tell yourself is that this is temporary.
Hang in there.

Next to being told you have cancer, the hair loss is probably the most tramatic thing. With all the wigs and cute hats out there, you can have lots of fun with it.
As Cindy said, there can be advantages. Just think how much you save on hair products and such. I decided since I wasn't spending that money on hair care, I would indulge myself with manicures and pedicures. My spa set aside a set of tools just for me.
Have a good cry over the loss of the hair and then go out and have fun with it.

"so now I've got something in common with my cats...I'm shedding"
i know exactly how you feel. i had my 1st chemo treatment on 7/21 and yesterday i was shedding so bad that i decided to cut my hair! i was trying to hold on to it as long as i could & then i realized i would have to do it sooner or later. It by far was one of the hardest things i've had to deal with! i put my hair in a pony tail and my hubby cut it off for me. I cried, then we laughed and i wore my wig for the 1st time yesterday to a family picnic! Today i am sporting a really cool scarf, and i'm dealing with the hair loss pretty well. The hardest thing was to actually cut it and wear the wig for the 1st time..
oh, my scalp was very sensitive and tingly the few days before my hair really started to shed also...
good luck & hang in there!
