Unhappy - Have gained weight and not sure what to do about it...am Curves member Have gained weight and not sure what to do about it...am Curves member

Hi Everyone:

It is so nice to see everyone's posts here about Curves. I love going there on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. I workout on my stationary bike on Tuesday and Thursday. Although I have been working out hard for the last two weeks, I have still managed to gain 7 pounds!!!!!!!

I have been on Weight Watchers also for about two weeks as well. The only thing that I have done consistently off of my Points is to eat two Tablespoons of peanut butter before I workout so that I can also have more energy. I read somewhere that only eating this amount of peanut butter on a daily basis won't cause weight gain and that it helps to lower cholesterol.

Could the peanut butter be the reason for the weight gain? Are there any supplements I should or could be taking to help lose weight faster?

I am on HRT and had a full hysterectomy back in May. Does HRT make you gain weight?

Any advice would help. Thanks in advance

I wouldn't think that the peanut butter in itself would make you gain weight. Unfortunately after a hyst, it can take some time for the body to adjust. Weight gain isn't necessarily from the hormone itself but from an imbalance of the hormones. Here's two good articles on this issue:
Weight and Hrt
Weight and Menopause

I know it's frustrating, but you may want to give it some more time. If you continue to gain, give your doctor a call as unexplained weight gain can also be a sign of a thyroid imbalance.

I agree that the Peanut Butter, on it's own, is probably not the cause of your weight gain. Since you both started a new eating program and a new exercise program, in addition to the changes brought by the hyst and HRT, it may be a case of your body needing time to adjust to all these changes. You may also want to talk about the weight gain to both you Weight Watchers leader and your Curves adviser: they may have some insight for you.

Good advice, I've recently been reminded on what a tightrope I'm on with HRT and thyroid meds.I have neen at curves for 7 months and have lost cms and weight ( not as much as expected 12kgs) I know this is good but in the past I would have lost far more, which led me to ask my DR to "please explain" He pointed out alot of things in the articles that Kim mentioned and also keeping my thyroid on track was even more important. I was very stupid to take my time ( 2 weeks) getting another prescription for Oroxine and in this time although I didn't gain weight I really struggled to hold my own. Thankfully I am getting back to where I was, hopefully a loss at next weigh/measure.
I have also noticed that with Curves that the toning and muscle building starts quite quickly, I'm sure this has an impact on weight but I don't know 7 lbs? Goodluck it does take time and patience, get your thyroid checked for peace of mind.
