Panic attacks!

My surgery is scheduled for a week from today. I am starting to have panic attacks, trouble eating, and I am crying a lot! I have also been very short tempered, which is having a horrible effect on my two year old.

Does anyone have an suggestions?

Panic attacks!

I wish I had advice. Mine is scheduled in more than a month and I am already having these problems. My BP last night was 185/99. I hope this gets better and not worse because I have awhile to wait! I wish you the best!

Panic attacks!

Relax. I'm scheduled for the same date and I just keep telling myself...relax! I meet with my doc today at 4:00 and have a whole list of questions to go over with him. What's so frustrating at this point is, since I scheduled the surgery, my periods haven't been bad at all. Just some cramps and pains. Not changing my mind now. I started this process 2 years ago. When I was contemplating surgery, everything was good. As soon as I stopped, bad periods again. My body is playing tricks on me! Anyway, just think, we'll be having it done on the same day...you aren't alone!!!! Hugs and prayers....

Panic attacks!

I completely understand, I was very short tempered before my surgery and had little patience with my 4 yr old. It did help to go out and do some fun stuff with her like shopping and letting her pick out some p.j.'s for me to wear around the house. I also let her pick some activities for her do in bed with me like Crayloa No Mess markers and a Dr's kit for her to help me feel better. Try and do some outside stuff with your little one like go swimming or just be silly and walk threw the sprinkler with him/her, it will be awhile before you can do that stuff again and it could help with getting your mind off your surgery.
Cook meals that can be freezed, clean, and get your recovery room ready, doing stuff really helped me settle done and feel like I had some control over this surgery.
I wish you luck with everything!!!

Panic attacks!

If you are really uncomfortable, please call your Dr. and tell him you need something short term for anxiety. The more rested and relaxed you are prior to surgery, the easier it will be on you. I asked for something months ago when I found out I needed to have this done. Haven't needed it yet, but am glad I have it and will probably really need it the week before for sleep, if nothing else. I wish you the best with all. Let all your H-sisters know how you get along.

I too can relate. My surgery in also next Monday. I am also anxious and confused about hormones. I am glad that I am not alone. Good luck to you and I know all will go well. I did ask my Doc for something to take the night before and he will hook me up that morning. Good luck!

Panic attacks!

MIne is the day after yours, I can feel your anxiety. I keep thinking I am hungry, eat something and then I feel sick. Usually being nervous causes me to overeat, this would have been bad as I eeasily could have put on 5# this week, lol. I have appts every morning, and luckily for my daughter today and the next 2 someone will have her other than me. I get so agrivated at the little things. We will be having fun thurs and on SAt the whole family is taking an all day trip to see a set of Caverns, this should be great fun for us and I hope that will help take my mind off next tues. Try to do something as a family you might not get to do for a while, then you and the kids can have that memory. Angela

Panic attacks!

I can totally relate to your anxiety! I had to take a pill (klonipin) this morning because I was ready to go over the edge. I may need to up my dosage because I'm just ready to freak out!!!!!

Panic attacks!

I agree with the posts about talking to your and getting out and doing something fun to get your mind off of it.

For me the waiting for the trip to the castle was one of the hardest parts of the surgery.

Best wishes and gentle s are being sent your way.

Panic attacks!

Sisters,
Don't be afraid to take a short term anxiety medication. I use Ativan, and it is amazing that 1/2 miligram stops the anxiety cold. For me, just knowing that the medication works..keeps a lot of anxiety at bay. When my anxiety gets totally out of control--because I refuse to take the meds--I have residual anxiety for days. Best advice, when you can't think straight, your heart is racing, your panic is out of contro...AND Deep breathing and relaxation techniches don't work--call the DR and nip it in the bud.

We silly women suffer so much needless pain because we think we can tough it out. But our families suffer--there is no shame in anxiety getting the best of you--this is a BIG deal.

Funny thing though, I have general anxiety disorder and take meds about once or twice a year when the attacks hit. However, I was dead calm before, during and after my surgery. Only now 8 weeks out I am freaking out for no reason at all--it really ticks me off.

Oh well, I hope you will call your DR--YOU ARE NOT ALONE--and there is really effective relief out there for you.
