The Irony of Estrogen Patches

Isn't it funny that the hormone patches don't stay on like you need them to, but when you go to remove them, the adhesive won't come off???

Here's some tips for keeping the patch stuck Patches: Adhesion and one for removing the adhesive Patches: Adhesive removal

If the tips don't help, than maybe you could try another brand of patch. Some do seem to stick better than others.

Hi B2!

Which estrogen patch do you use? I don't have any trouble keeping my Vivelle Dot on the full 3 1/2 days. I find that the adhesive comes off easily, especially if I wait 15 minutes for the area to dry as recommended by the packaging information.

I used Climara and the generic Climara---neither stayed on worth a "toot"!! Plus, they look really ugly after a couple days from the adhesive getting dirty-looking on the edges---attractive!!

Thanks, but no thanks....I think I'll pop pills instead.

I'm curious to know about the "wait 15 minutes for area to dry." I don't use Vivelle. I use Climara and I'm wondering if this is something that might apply to Climara.

Thanks,

I just started using the Vivelle-Dot and never read that part about 15 minutes before. So I went and grabbed the paper that came with it and it says:

If any adhesive residue remains on your skin after removing the patch, allow the area to dry for 15 minutes. Then, gently rub the area with oil or lotion to remove the adhesive from your skin.

Keep in mind, the new patch must be applied to a different area of your abdomen. This area must be clean, dry, cool and free of powder, oil or lotion.

There ya go, Lilbelle. Nice lil tip. Thanks for the info, April Dawn.

Lilbelle, I checked the patient insert for Climara online and there was no mention of waiting for 15 minutes before trying to removed the adhesive. It simply said any adhesive remaining could easily be rubbed off.

I don't suppose it would hurt anything to try waiting before removing it.

Thanks for the follow-up. I'll be patient with my residue.

I've been trying to scrub it off right away in the shower. I only put the patch on my backside, so in the shower I must look like a cat chasing her tail trying to see the goo well enough to scrub it off! Actually, if I leave the goo on to dry after the shower, atleast it will remind me not to put the NEW patch on the same cheek! Yea.

I love this website.
