Mom has questions and needs answers please!
Hello,
This is my first post and I would like to start out by saying I am so happy to have found you guys!!! I am a 34 yr old stay-at-home mom of 2 beautiful daughters and my hysterectomy is scheduled for Sept 27th. I have a history of female problems in my family and I am actually looking forward to my surgery. I have a 2 (almost 3 yr old) and a 7 month old. My little one will be 9 months when I get home from the hospital. Now I called the doctors office today and they said I can't lift my baby for 6 weeks! Does that sound right? My husband will have to be home the whole time if I am unable to put her in her crib or high chair. That is a lot of time to not get paid on his part. I am freaking out. I wanted to know if there are any moms like me who have been in this situation? Iwish I had other help nearby, but we don't. Our families live all over the country and they all work too. The only other person in our town is my grandma and at 74 I don't think she is up to the task of filling in for my job! haha I would like to know if the time frame sounds about right for all you women who are recovering now. Thanks for your time and input.

Yes, thats correct
Hi,
My name is melissa and i am also a stay at home mother of 3. A 3 1/2 yr ols and 20 month old twins. i am now one week post op and it is very hard not being able to pick up my kids . You will get through it!!!! Have you checked in to getting someone to come in and help, like a temp nanny of some sort. I am lucky my mther is here for a month or so,well i dont knoe about lucky . Anyway, you could maybe find someone to come in while your husband is at work or even take them to a daycare for a couple weeks. I knoe its hard when you stay home to have someone else do it for you but it is necessary. If you are having a Lap. asst Vag hys. like me you will fell like you can pick them up after a week, but DONT. I did last night with my daughter and felt the Pain Also check out Moms Club in your area. I belong to it here. Its for stay at home moms like you. Maybe you can make some freinds, who can help, and Church if you go may be able to help. Hang in there and if you have any Questions let me know

74 years young? is your grandma physically & emotionally able to help, has your grandma helped in the past, does she enjoy it, I would ask her if the answers are yes, My mother in law is 75 and through the years she has always watched the grankids ( now ages 16-4 )including with 5 yr old twins that she has watched everyday since they were born. I hope this is an option for you....Lifting the little ones, your body will remind you that it is not a wise idea. There are ways you can handle this alone if there is no one and DH has to leave, you can confine yourself and the little ones in one or two rooms,You will be amazed how in tune little ones are, you can sit on the carpet --with some pillows to make you more comfortable, they can come up to you and you can hug them. you can put the little ones down on the carpet with a blanket instead of the crib, you can feed them on the floor instead of the highchair. Think, if you do damage, you can end up back in the castle for more repairs and back home for an even longer recovery time, is it worth it???

Thanks for your replys. Unfortunatly my husband commutes to the Bay-area and is gone from 4am till 6:30-7:00pm. If I can't lift my daughter out of the crib then I would need somebody here those hours. It is just unrealistic to have that much help for that many hours. I can't even take them anywhere for the day cause I can't lift the baby to her car seat. My grandma comes over now 4 days a week so I can go to Curves to excersize. She has been a huge help, but those hours are just too much for her to handle. I guess my hubby doesn't have a choice this time. I think he will enjoy the girls and vice versa. Thaks again for the input. I just love knowing you are all here for me!

I am also a SAHM, just found out the other day that DH plans to take off the 1st 2 weeks. He had planned this all along and here I was making other arrangments. I am fortunate enough to have my mom nearby(she is not in great health, so I know she could not hlep me every day all day), but I agree that it is not feesable to have someone there all the time. My DS just started Kindergarten, but DD is 2 yo, and is still in her crib. I was told after the 1st 2 weeks I could lift 25#, when I stated good, DD is right at that(she is on the small side) doc said lets make that 4 weeks. How heavy is the baby? have you discussed weight restrictions with him? I agree that we only have one chance to heal correctly and that we must obey the doc. All of this also depends on the type of hyst you are having. ALso would it be possible for DH to work more part time during this time, or at least go in later in the day? It is alot to think about, and I wish you the best. YOu will do what is right. GL

Mom has questions and needs answers please!
Hi,
I to have 2 children but one of them will be starting school scholl the week I have my surgery. But I do have a 2 year old. I know all of those thougths went through my head also. I had my surgery planned for July then it was changed to August. As it turns out to be August was not a good month for people to help me, with school starting. But then as time grew near, family members pulled together.
But let me tell you I was so scared about trying to take care of my 2 year old. The not lifting her was goign to be hard. I feel for you , and send you all the prayers I can send your way. I know it will be very hard. But if your husband does take some time off, make sure you use it for recovery. So that you can be a "supermom" again!!!
Take care
