I have an opening in my incision that has been draining for about 10 days. At first I was soaking a gauze pad every three or four hours and now I just have a few spots here and there. I am on two types of antibiotic for infection and the drainage is just a pale yellow color. How will I know when it's safe to remove the dressing and how will I be sure it has stopped forever. The opening in the incision is obviously still open a bit as it's allowing drainage. Anyone have some advice??? Does it just keep slowing down until it stops or will it start up again??? I am 4 weeks post op and really tired of discharge, drainage, etc...........
Well, I went for a week with no drainage but a bit of show on the towel everytime I dried the incision after my shower. 4 week doc appt - he silver nitrated the incision. I thought this was to stop the bleeding. I have been draining like when it first happened again.
I am really hoping that this is the start of the end. The incision is still open a bit (a hole about the size of a pea) and is only spotting from time to time. It is just really, really sore around the opening and on that side of my pelvic area but that is also the side they took an ovary from. Hopefully it won't start over again.
My incision opened about the same size 16 days post-op and I also had that yellowish drainage. Eventually I was given antibiotics over the phone, which certainly helped; however, when I finally saw the doctor he said I had a stitch abscess. After he pulled the stitch (didn't hurt at all), the incision closed completely within a few days. Has your doctor seen you? I wish I'd been a bit more persistent over the phone, although everything turned out just fine.
