Eating light pre-op?

I've seen a few people here post that they "ate light" the 2-3 days before pre-op and it made me wonder . .. just what were you eating? Or not eating?

Thanks in advance,
Seraa

Eating light pre-op?

I ate what I wanted until the day before surgery when I was on a liquid diet ,then nothing after midnight. I could have, beef/chicken broth, plain jello, fruit juices, soda, tea. I couldn't have dairy products. I didn't know chicken broth could taste so good, when you couldn't have anything else to eat.

Eating light pre-op?

My doctor instructed me to eat whatever I wanted before surgery and then nothing after midnight the night before. I had no problems afterwards.

Be sure to follow your own doctor's instructions regarding your diet before surgery. You don't want to do anything that could cancel your surgery.

Best wishes!

Eating light pre-op?

We are all going to have gas pains! I have the colon cleanser[very large jug of it] I'll be using the nite before.I will eat lite but often, mostly soups with meat vegs and pasta.Trying not to eat anything that causes gas.I know I'll be wanting some chicken/pizza. Drink as much water as you can before cut off time.Best of luck.Let us know how things went.

Eating light pre-op?

This will be my 6th surgery in 3 yrs and experience has taught me to start tapering to a liquid/soft food diet 3 days out and the day before only soft or liquid foods. Drink as much water as humanly possible until your cut off time.

Anethesia slows down your bowels (narcotics make things worse bowel wise) and constipation is a horrible thing to endure right after surgery. I have found if I do this, I don't have to have a BM for about 2-3 days after surgery and I don't have to deal with constipation. I do have gas though and it minor compared to constipation.

Everyone is different, but I found this works for me.

Eating light pre-op?

I ate very light the day before eating soups and a small salad for lunch. It helped me to have as little as possible on my tummy for the surgery.

Eating light pre-op?

All I could have the day before was liquids and nothing after midnight. Luckily, I had really bad allergies back in June and I felt so bad I really had no appetite. I had jello, juice, water, broth, all liquids. I also had to drink a full bottle of magnesium citrate the night before and give myself a fleet enema the morning of the surgery (what fun!). The dr said she wanted my digestive system and colon as clear as possible.

I was also told to eat whatever I wanted, and I did. I had absolutely no problems because of it.

As (((Deb)))said, It is extremely important to follow whatever instructions your Dr gave you. Do nothing more, nothing less. Your Dr is planning your surgery and recovery. There have been women who have had their surgeries postponed because they decided to "bowel prep" and it caused them to be dehydrated or their electrolytes to be off.

Please follow whatever instructions your Dr gave you. There are several types of hysterectomies and many different health situations. Your Dr has prescribed what is best for you.

Kay

Eating light pre-op?

Thanks for all the replies. My pre-op isn't til 2 days before the actual surgery, but when I go, I'll make sure to do just what the doc says.
