LAVH finally coming Monday after being rescheduled!

Finally my hysterectomy date is approaching! I wrote last week disappointed because I had to reschedule due to a cold (which turned out to be a sinus infection). Luckily I got it rescheduled for Monday, August 15th, only a week difference. My infection is cleared with antibiotics and the cold is nearly gone. During this time I wasn't having any major endometriosis symptoms and was beginning to doubt my decision to do this, but today Aunt Flow arrived with a vengeance and now I fully remember why I decided to have the hysterectomy. Working and driving while on Lortabs around the clock for several weeks out of every month (including ovulation) is just too scary, especially when I contemplate doing it for the next twenty years! By the way, my doctor said it was ok to take the lortabs near my surgery date but I can not take the IbProfen which I usually combine with it. Unfortunately, the Lortabs alone aren't enough and I can't wait to get this done! In a twisted way Aunt Flow coming now has been a blessing because I feel more mentally and physically prepared for the battle ahead, including the pain of post op. My only worry now is that my doctor said he would only remove my ovaries if they are damaged/diseased. He doesn't believe in removing a healthy organ and also worries about my age (33) and the effect this could have on me. However, the risk of endometriosis returning is higher with any remaining ovaries. I know that I have a lot of pain on my left side as well as around my uterus, vagina, lower back, and rectum, but not really any on my right side. I don't know if I should push for having both ovaries removed or just wait and see what he finds. I am also feeling ambiguous about this as I worry about surgical menopause and HRT. Hopefully HRT is not like BC because I tried that route and it only made me sick. I could always have any remaining ovaries removed later but then again this is another surgery and more money. Has anyone else been in this predicament with endometriosis? Sorry for the long thread, just needed to get my thoughts out there.

LAVH finally coming Monday after being rescheduled!

I had my hyst for endo just 6 wks ago. My DR said he was gonna take my ovaries regardless because of the risk of reoccurance. He also said no HRT for at least 6 months to help "kill off" any remaining endo he didn't/couldn't get to. That was all fine and dandy until last week. I just couldn't take the migraines, intense hot flashes, constant crying. I told him I would rather risk the endo coming back and having another surgery than go on like that. He was sympathetic and put my on a hormone patch... reluctantly.
I understand your fears. This is a toughy and something that really does deserve a good chunk of consideration. Talk to your DR about what you're worried about, what you've read, your concerns. Good luck to you and I hope your DR can help ease your mind before surgery.
