Anyone else post-op with an infant at home?

I just had my TAH on July 25th and although I'm feeling very good, I'm worried about overdoing it.

My daughter was 4 months old on July 30th. Because my husband is self-employed and much of the time I'm taking off is without pay (I used up all my sick time for maternity leave!!!) he couldn't afford to take time off from work. So...we moved in with my parents temporarily. (Fortunately they live 10 minutes away.)

Although I feel incredibly blessed/grateful to have all of the help they are giving, it's obviously not the best situation and things can get quite tense. I feel like my husband and I are both so anxious to get home that I'm sort of overdoing it where taking care of my daughter is concerned. The doctor gave me the go ahead to lift her (she weighs about 15 pounds) but I'm still worried. My husband is a great daddy and loves both of us very much, but the reality is that pre-surgery she was primarily my responsibility. I'm scared about how I'm going to handle going back to work and taking care of her during most nonworking time I have.

Any advice? Anyone else dealing with/dealt with a similar situation? I know it's hard to deal with a TAH when you have any kids, but when you have an infant who still gets up in the middle of the night, doesn't nap well during the day and has to be carried around constantly...what's a girl to do?

Edited to add: My parents have the baby in the crib in their bedroom...I usually get her up at 12am to feed her while they're sleeping, they get up with her if she's up in the middle of the night or early in the morning so my husband can get enough sleep to function at work.

I had a similar situation--my son was 5 months old when I had a SAH. He was close to 20 lbs, and my doc said no lifting him for the first 2 weeks. I cheated on that rule a little bit (it's hard not to hold your baby!). But after that, while I picked him up and held him a few times a day--I did have pain come back at the incision site that I only had felt the first few days after surgery. Your body will tell you when you're overdoing it. I encourage you to enlist the help of your family & friends, even though you may look fine and can lift your baby, try to avoid it for a little while longer. You'll heal faster if you give yourself a break. It can get easy to bit off more than you can chew. I know I did!

Bradyhas2 - you're certainly right...your body does tell you. I definitely overdid it today.

My friend and her 9 month old came over to visit. My family was trying to be nice and give us space, but since they left us alone, I ended up leaning over too much, trying to help my baby sit up to look at and play with the other baby. I finally told my friend I needed help and she took over with both of them and it was fine. I was just dumb that I waited so long to ask for help and now I'm paying for it. I've been really sore the rest of the day.

I was honest with my family and have asked to not be alone with her at all the rest of today and took a nice, long 2 hour nap after my friend left. I'm doing better, but still feeling much more sore than I was this morning. Dumb, dumb, dumb.

Steph300 - it's great you have family coming to help. Let them stay as long as they're willing. I'm really just starting to realize how not ready I am to be alone with her yet. Yesterday I was feeling on top of the world and that I was healing so quickly and now I feel like I've taken more than 2 steps back!
