Anyone have to wear stockings after

Hello Ladies

I am 4 days post op and doing really well so far, except for a few lingering gas pains.

I was just wondering if anyone had to wear stockings to prevent Deep Vein Thombosis after coming home from the castle. I had to wear them during surgery and for the 3 days in hospital, on discharge I have been told to keep them on for about 10 days. I find them very uncomfortable as they go above my knee up to my thighs. They are very tight and restricting.

You are not alone. I had to wear mine for 2 weeks post op. During the second week I would take them off for an hour or so just to feel some relief (plus I'd run them through the washer to try and freshen them up!). They made my legs itch and yes they are very binding. But they are important to help prevent clots.

Good luck with your recovery! May it be very uneventful

I had to wear stockings while i was in hospital, as well as having Hefarin injections daily to thin the blood as a preventative measure of DVT.

tho i was told i didnt have to wear them at home as long as i wasnt sat down laid up for very long periods of time.

Hi Sandy,

I wore them for the first 10 days home. On day 7 post op my doctor had me take a baby aspirin each day for the next two weeks, the hose came off after I'd been on the aspirin for three days. I stopped taking the aspirin when I was up and walking more often than I reclined or sat around.

Hi

I was told to wear them for 2 - 3 weeks at home. I erred on the side of caution and kept them on for 3 weeks. Horrible things! I've kept them for flying, as they're much better than 'flight stockings', in case I ever go on any long-haul flights!

I had to wear them in the hospital, and at home until I was "up and around". I also had to have daily shots of heparin for a week. I hated the stockings, and was not given a number of days to wear them, so took them off after 3 days at home. I am now on aspirin therapy and getting plenty of walking in every day.

It is strange how different things can be - I had to wear the compression boots that inflate and deflate constantly for 2 days in the hospital - no baby aspirin, no shots, nothing when I came home.

I wore the blow up boots at the hosptial until they took the iv and epidural out. Then they removed the boots, which was great because I hated them. They were hot and uncomfortable. I didn't have to wear TED hose at all.

It *is* strange how different it can be. I wore the compression booties and got the heparin injections the whole time I was in the castle...but I've had a previous DVT, so they were being cautious.

I know how uncomfortable the compression hose can be, I had to wear them for a month when I had surgery and was flat on my back for 3 weeks in the hospital when I was a teen.

BUT, the compression hose are much better than developing a clot, that I can tell you for sure
