I've heard of it, but there was no way I was going home the same night! I was soooooooo tired! I had surgery on a Monday afternoon and went home early Wednesday morning. I was more than ready to come home by then.
Listen to your body (once your head clears, lol). You may need some extra time to recoup.

Wow. If I were you, I wouldn't move around then! No, I haven't heard of this, but from reading all the posts, I suppose anything is possible. I had TAH/BSO and they told me 3 days (surgery day, next day, and released the 3rd day). I actually stayed 4 days. I know it all depends on how you are doing after the surgery, whether your pain is under control, your blood pressure, etc...all those medical things that nurses come in and check you for all the time. I was even surprised they wouldn't let me out of bed the day of my surgery, because I was warned beforehand that they would have me up and walking the same day. They never told me why, but they wouldn't let me get up until the next morning, 24 hours later. All-in-all, I felt pretty pampered there, except for a couple pain-management issues.

Time Spent in Hospital

I had a TVH at 7:30 am and they told me I would probably go home by evening. I was totally fine during the day until evening when they got me up to walk.... felt dizzy and began throwing up. They said I would have to spend the night. If it weren't for the vomiting, I would have felt good enough to home that evening. All depends on you and how you feel, they will not send you home if you're not ready. I was released the next morning before noon and have had a great recovery.
Best Wishes

I got home this afternoon after my surgery Monday morning, LAVH/BSO. Scare tissue from an 1982 c-section grew around my bladder. The endometriosis was on the outside of my UT. One day and home. I have not taken any pain meds in the hospital or at home. Some gas pains but am taking Gas-X. Best wishes on your surgery.

My doctor said that it was a possiblility that I could go home the same day after my TVH. However, I am not willing to do that and will demand to stay overnight. I think that having the TVH makes the difference as to when you will be released.

Time Spent in Hospital

Hi Adbc,

I had a LSH. I had my hyst at an outpatient facility. I had surgery at 7:30 AM and I went home at 6:00 PM the same day. I did have the option on my chart to spend the night if my Dr. had wanted me to.

Best wishes,

Mary

I asked my doctor if there was any way to do this and leave the same day. My 3 1/2 year old is VERY attached and I know we will have a hard time being apart. He laughed at me (in a nice way!) and said that standard is two full days, not counting the surgery day. I hope that you feel good enough to go home right away, but don't be afraid to speak up if you don't feel ready!

Time Spent in Hospital

I had surgery on Thurday and was home on Saturday. The DR told me that I would be in until Monday at the latest. By Saturday I was so ready to go home. I talked to him about it when he came in to check on me that day. I had no problems except I was miserable and wanted to go home. He agreed and put in the discharge orders with the nurses. Thank heaven my mom was able to stay with us for the first 2 weeks. Between her, DH & DS, my recovery was quick and painless (except for the boredom) I was more willing to get up and move around at home than I was in the hospital.
Like Dorothy said "There's no place like home". Ain't that the truth?!
