stuff to bring to the castle

I have been slowly getting ready for my stay at the castle. I noticed on several posts from sisters saying to bring pads. Why pads? What would I need with them?

My doctor said I will have "drainage" for up to a month. Oh yay.

Depending on what type of hyst you have you will have drainage up to 6 weeks. I didn't bring my own pads. The hospital does provide them, but they may be the huge old square type. My hospital had the "normal" pads that you buy at the store. I didn't really care which type though. At home I made sure that I had a box ready. Actually the discharge was not that much for me. I could have gotten away with panty liners after the 5th day. I'm still having some yellowish discharge at 3 1/2 weeks and I had a TVH.

I am having a TAH/BSO. What type of drainage? Is it blood or like discharge? Where is it coming from, especially if everything is coming out? I am sorry for my ignorance.

Hi Flannelsister,

I took pads but I was lucky that I only had 6 spots the morning after surgery, others have a discharge for longer. In fact my gyn was surprised that mine was so short.

Take care.....Karen

I said the same thing!!!

I needed them after surgery for (bloody) drainage - vaginal for a few days after surgery..... and I had not had af since I was 16 and I am 31 now!!!

Then once I was home I did not like what the tape was doing to my stomach so I started using them on the front of my panites for my Vertical incison.... Needed these up until last week (but I had an infection in my incision)

I took pads, too -- and didn't need them. I never had one bit of drainage.

Ask your doc to see what he/she expects you to have.

Later on, though -- I did use pads when my surgical drains were removed and they continued to "leak" for a few days. (Not everyone has these, however -- I had a panniculectomy so I went home with three drains.)

I had TAH and woke up with a pad already on. They took out my catheter and let me get up the next day and take a shower. After that, I never used any pads. I had absolutely no drainage. The doc had told me that about 2 wks after surgery I might have some drainage, but I didn't have anything then either.

Best of luck!!! Don't stress out about the little stuff.

I had a TAH and I only used pads for 2 days post-op. Even then, there was very little light pink spotting. I haven't had any kind of spotting since. I used my pads in the front of my underwear to catch the drainage from my incision.

Best of luck to you!

I was thinking of donating my entire collection of pads and tampons to my sister-in-law, but I guess I'll wait and see if I need to use any more of the pads before I give them away.

It would be my luck that if I have them on hand, I won't need them. But, if I don't have them, I'll wish I did
