Bro-in-law's wife...doesn't know what she's talking about...

Vent alert...

The other day I wanted to pick up my little year old niece and smooch her up, then it hit me that I cannot due to the lifting issue. My mom-in-law said, "oooh, yeah, you better not!" Then my bro-in-law's wife chimed in with, "my girlfriend didn't do that. She went back to cleaning houses the next week after surgery". I immediately said, "Oooh, that's not good. She could get adhesions, really nasty scar tissue that could stick her intestines together...not good!" She barely heard me as she sucked on her cig...jeez.

Yep, people say the craziest things.

Before my surgery I was told by a co-worker that his neighbor was out jumping fences and chasing wandering cows back to their pens just three days after her surgery.

...and a mere five days after surgery, she was screaming in pain on the barn floor...

It's hearing comments like that my DH and I have decided there are certain people that aren't going to be told about my surgery.

Isn't it funny how everyone knows someone who had a hyster and the next week they were out doing back flips. All I have to say is WHATEVER!!! You know what you are doing is right and keeping yourself safe. As for these women who can jump fences, clean house, save the world a week after a major surgery I'd like to meet them, it would cool to meet a super hero. Maybe they bring Santa Claus and the Easter bunny with them .
Happy recovering and don't let anyone pressure you into doing something their imaginary hyster friend did.

People always have opinions about things they don't know nothing about. Everyone is different. Yeah, I was feeling fine after I had my surgery and thought I was Mrs. Superhero but I find out the hard way, that I wasn't. I am taking it easy now and don't care what anyone have to say. My body needs to recover and I must remember I'm not as young as I use to be. So I just listen to other people and say yeah, yeah, yeah but they are not me. So back off.

My SIL told my MIL that I should be back to work the week after my hyst because 'somebody she knows" was. And what I had done is minor compared to having a baby.

It doesn' t pay to tell some people.

There are guide lines for a reason. Everybody is different and heal differently. Maybe she just had to say that because everybody is talking about you and she feels left out. People are funny that way. What till she goes through it.You do what's right for you.

One thing I like about coming to this site is the myriad of different experiences that one can draw from. It reassures me that each of us is uniquely different AND that we have a lot in common. No one can tell you how you "SHOULD" be feeling - and people here reaffirm that what your ARE feeling is real. Their experiences help me get a reality check. I really appreciate the "check with your doctor" advice because so many previous physicians I've had gave subtle "why are you bothering me with this" messages. Abdominal surgery IS a big deal, and we've paid a gob of money for our doctors' care and I truly believe that the majority of them want what's best for us, with as little pain as possible. Thanks all for your wisdom and advice.
