Post op temperature & a simple ovarian cyst

Hi everyone. My surgery was just last Friday 8/19 and I have been carrying a low grade fever -99.3 to 100 since. My discharge instructions stated to call if its over 101, so I am sure its all normal but a fever does wear on ya. I know I was given antibiotics as a preventative but that was in small doses thru the IV. Should I be concerned?

My OB wanted to a TAH, taking the ovaries too but I talked him into saving 1 if possible, which he was able to do. However, the one that was left had a cyst on it, that he removed. That has hurt me more than anything -very tender. He said the cyst was simple ( not cancerous ) but wasn't thrilled about leaving the O in there. Did I do the right thing by keeping it? I just couldn't bear the thought of sudden menopause.

tah 8/05, 1 sensitive ovary left, ablation 10/04, d &c's, polyps, hyperplasia, adenomyosis & endometriosis
Thanks for the help!

Post op temperature & a simple ovarian cyst

hi fwmaggie! I had my tah on august 12 almost 2 weeks ago. Like you i convinced my doc to keep atleast one ovary, i got to keep the left ovary but my doc told me it was full of cysts, took some out but still have some on it. I am doing ok except like you my left ovary is very very sore, that side of my tummy hurts alot, the ride side is fine infact hardly any pain at all, its all on the left side. I wonder if its due to the work that has been done on it or if its because that ovary is working hard trying to compensate for the right one that is gone? I guess only time will tell. But i am convinced that we did the right thing in keeping atleast one ovary sudden menopause sounds alot worse than what we are going through,i hope i am right lol, like i said only time will tell. I wish you the best of luck and hope that remaining ovary will give you peace soon! take care!

I also asked to keep my other ovary if it was healthy but it had 2 mucinal tumors on it and they had to take it. I have been wondering if I should have pushed harder to keep whatever they could, ended up with TAH/BSO. I think no matter what happens, you question the decision -even if you weren't the one making the decision!

You are right, we're very good at 2nd guessing ourselves. I had never had searing pain like that before and it was hard to tolerate. It has improved since my first post, thank God! The doc made it pretty clear he wasn't happy that I wanted to keep it but I wanted to take my chances. I will have to be proactive from now on and have my game plan set to keep an eye on it for some time to come. Cyndilou, I hope you handling the surgical menopause ok.
I appreciate the responses from all!
