Urodynamic Test next week - Scared

I had a supracervical hyst on June 6. I was ok with bladder at first, but have been having problems since the end of June. Here's my story, sorry it's so long: In June of 2004, about a week after being treated with Cipro for a UTI, I developed this feeling of having to urinate all the time. This was constant, morning noon and night. Sometimes I could go, other times nothing came out but I still had the feeling of a full bladder. I went to a urologist and he did a sonogram, said the bladder looked normal and put me on detrol. I took it for a month, went off and was fine for an entire year. He said the problem was probably a gynological one, since I had large fibroids. OK, I felt fine, so be it.

A year later, I have my hyster, come home from the hospital with a UTI, my gyno gives me Cipro, the UTI clears up and I thought that was the end of it. Well, a week and a half later, just like the year before, I developed the feeling of constantly having to urinate again. Was tested for another UTI, it was negative. My gyno tells me go back to urologist. He puts me on detrol again and tells me it's probably bladder spasms. Well, here I am 2 months later, still having the same problem, detrol has stopped working (I'm taking Sanctura now), and have gone to a different urologist who is sending me for a urodynamic test next week. He said this should have been done a year ago, my previous urologist should not have just given me pills and sent me on my way last year. I'm really scared. I have had nothing but problems since I had the surgery, IBS problems, incision problems, recurring yeast infections and this. I feel I have traded one set of horrors for another. I'm sorry this is so long, and to vent like this, I know that my family feels bad for me, but they can't really understand what I'm gong through.
I don't know what advice anyone can give me, or if any of you have experienced anything like this, but I could really use some support. You guys are the best!

P.S. I just find this too coincidental that the same thing happened to me 2 years in a row, at the same time of year after being treated with Cipro for a UTI.

I am sorry you had to go through this. I've had alot of problems since my hyst in May of 2004. I've had gb surgery and rectocele/enterocele surgery. I am now heading for a cystocele, tvt and lapro surgery for abdominal pain issues.Sooner or later we will quit having problems.
I had a urodynamic test done a couple months ago. It doesn't hurt one bit and it really tells the dr what is going on. My uro/gyn decided on the tvt procedure by the test results. I think it is great you got another urologist. It sounds like this one is doing the right thing. Good luck and I hope everything turns out alright for you.

Thanks Peggy. I really hope they can get to the bottom of what's going on and fix it. I'd love to be one of those women who say that they feel great since their surgery, best thing they've ever done...I just feel that's not in the cards for me.

What is a tvt?

I hope you are right and before too long, we will stop having these problems. Good luck to you too.

tvt is trans vaginal tape. it is a type of mesh tape that goes under the urethra and comes out just above the pubic bone. It is used for a urethral suspension for stress incontinence. I am also having a anterior repair for my cystocele. The incision will just be made longer after placing the tape under the urethra and then sew up the layers underneath that have weakened and caused the prolapse.
I never would have dreamed that I would have 4 surgeries within 16 months. I am praying that this is my last one.
Hang in there

Urodynamic Test next week - Scared

Hi Charly. I had a SAH in Aug. '04 and am having urodynamics testing in a few weeks too. I have had 12+ uti's since my hyst. I've also found a new uro. The first one I saw put me on antibiotics for 3 months and said I'd be fine.

It's very very discouraging to say the least. When people say oh how are you feeling? I paste on a big ole fake smile and say great.

I'm so tired of this. I have said that exact thing about trading one set of troubles for another. I also have developed vulvodynia which is painful vulva burning 24/7 and sex is not even possible without a LOT of pain.

I don't know........... please tell me how the urodynamics testing is. I have a CT the same day too.

Hi tacy99,

It is very discouraging and my heart goes out to you and everyone who is having complications.

I thought after the hyst, I'd be putting all these problems behind me. Well, I did and got a whole new set.

I know only too well about vulvadynia, a good friend of mine at work has it and I remembered how she suffered for a long while. Her gyno gave her anti anxiety meds and she's doing much better. She said he told her that they use that as some kind of new treatment and have had some success with it. I'll find out what she's taking and let you know. It's no miracle cure, but she said the difference is like night and day.

I'll let you know how the urodynamic is and good luck with your scan.

Charly, I had the very same thing happen to me for three years in a row in October. Full bladder feeling, having to go all the time, burning, itching, but no UTI would show up. I would go on several rounds of antibiotics which seemed to work and then it would come back. Then I would take diflucan for yeast. Finally things would calm down. Everytime I went through this stress incontinence would get worse to the point that I finally went to a uro last year. I was tested for IC (neg). Finally, on Detrol my bladder felt better. I've had two urethral slings put in. One with my hyst. During that my bladder was punctured. I've been pretty miserable with my bladder ever since. Next week I see the uro again and hopefully he will let me start Detrol again. He wanted to make sure that I would remember to empty my bladder so didn't want me to take meds to relax it.

I pray that we all get over these annoying symptoms. It would be so wonderful to feel normal again.

Dianne, I know how you feel, believe me. I really should have pressed my urologist last year to do the test for IC, but to tell you the truth, I was scared to find out and since it seemed to go away by the time I stopped the detrol, I wrote it off as a fluke.

The detrol worked for me for awhile, but it just stopped in early August, so now I'm on Sanctura, it seems to be working pretty well.

I just want answers. Even if it is IC, which I hope it's not, I'd just like to know what is wrong with me so I can do something about it.

I wish we all came through our hyst's with no problems. It would feel wonderful to be normal again.

Charly, I have taken tricyclics for the vulvodynia and they helped a great deal. Down side was they gave me horrible urinary retention and extremely elevated BP, so I can't use them :-(

My GYN has minimized my complaints of the burning and pain. The only time I felt like he listened when was I said how upset my dh was that we couldn't even have sex. He heard that!

I get the feeling urologists, at least the ones I've seen, aren't too comfortable talking about female sexual pain. Isn't that a big part of their practice with men though??
