Going Cold Turkey

Hello Sisters,
Been a long time posting. I have been on HRT since my surgery and I guess doing OK. I changed from V-dot to Alora, and since been having all sorts of troubles (skin.mood, patch not sticking...ect). The reason for changing was because insur co-pay $10 vs $30...ANYWHOO here's the scoop for coming to this forum, Tuesday my patch feel off and it was my last patch! so I thought what the heck lets see what would happen 24 hours later...cool, nothing! mood great so far knock on wood...now still doing great. So here's the big "Q" AM I NUTS OR WHAT? Going Cold Turkey an ok thing to do?

Any advice would be great.

Going Cold Turkey

Hi, I'm doing it cold turkey too. I decided before my surgery that I wanted to see if I could do without them and so far so good. My moods are pretty good. The only thing is the hot flashes. But my doctor wanted to put me on estrogen and I told her no because my grandmother developed breast cancer from that. So is there any natural alternatives? If so please tell me.

Going Cold Turkey

I got off the HRT cold turkey a month ago because it made me nauseous all the time. My Dr. put me on Wellbutrin to handle the mood swings and so far I haven't had any other symptoms except for some muscle aches. I feel totally better off the HRT. He told me to take a good multi-vitamin, a calcium/Vit D/magnesium and to walk. I am also adding some Omega 3 fish oil caps to help with the body aches. I don't regret one bit getting off the HRT. Take Care. Good Luck. Vickey

Going Cold Turkey

I was on different types of HRT two years after the hysterectomy and I did not feel right and had side effects. I also had a large co-pay for it and still had hot flashes. I quit when I ran out and felt better within one week. I have been HRT free for three years now and even though I have some mild hot flashes I feel very good and am glad I quit.

Hey Housewren, did you have any problems with body aches after you got off HRT? How long did it last if you did and did you find anything in particular that helped the most with it? That seems to be my only complaint now that I am off. And frankly, as bad as I felt on them I almost feel guilty complaining at all! Take care. Vickey

Going Cold Turkey

Well Ladies it's been 3 days since the cold turkey thing, and I have to say I feel better than ever! No hot flashes, I no longer have a hyper/ rush feeling, body aches...better, reg BM's and no gas!, mental clarity better.

I see that most of you ladies just had surgery, with the exception of housewren. May was my second hyster-versary, I've been on ERT since! and you know something? I thought I felt great then! well da! having surgery was the best thing I ever done...no brainer! BUT I thought that it was the Patch making me feel good...crazy as it may sound I could be wrong here, but I feel FANTASTIC! without it. Maybe I'm jumping the gun to soon but...I hope it keeps on keeping!

In the meantime during the next fool moon if you all hear of a 40ish crazy lady in the Pacific NW gone wacko :eyes:....you know who it is

Going Cold Turkey

I'm a 41 y/o sister - hyster:6/17/05 endometriosis, adenomysosis, ovarian cysts, adhesions. Still having terrible left lower quadrant pain... same as before surg. Saw doc again today - he suspects it is adhesions causing all the pain, however, it could be some residual endo so the first thing we are going to try is withholding ERT beginning today! I'm having hot flashes and moods while on the estrogen... how am I going to feel when I'm not????!!! I can't live with this pain though... one of the most important reasons I had the surgery to begin with. I will try this... anybody else experienced something similar? It does feel like adhesions... the pulling and stabbing pain with exertion or walking/standing, etc. I appreciate any support or advice from you wonderful sisters! Ria

Hi everyone,
I've read all your replies, personal stories, advice and questions with great interest. I always think we can learn a lot from eachother. There is quite a wealth in sharing our own experiences.
I have often thought about stopping my HRT (vivelle dot patch 0.075 mg), mainly because I just don't feel really right. I have this "rush-hyper" feeling almost every day long, and what bothers me more than anything is heart palpitations at night, a racing heart, and a feeling like I can't catch my breath. I wonder if it would be any better if I would stop taking HRT. I do know one thing for sure: I never had these kinds of problems happening to me before I started HRT!
Has any of you, who stopped with HRT cold turkey, had heart palpitations and such, and then had them go away after you stopped?
I would appreciate hearing from you!

Hello sister Arkansan!
I started Premarin right after my surgery. After being on it for about 6 weeks began having some stinging/stabbing pain in my chest. The pain lasted only about a minute. Anyway, the nurse at my gyn office said she had never heard of chest pain with my meds. Well, I didn't agree with that and stopped my Premarin for the last 3 days. So far, I'm feeling fine and no chest pain.
I'm taking my vitamins to combat osteo, but keeping up hope never to return to HRT.
Best of luck to you.

I also am stopping HRT.
Was on Estratest - with lots of side effects. Headaches, oily hair etc...
2 days off - drinking soy milk, black cohosh, and taking vitamins.
Felt great the 1st day.
A couple of hot flashes last night, not too bad.

39 y/o BSO/TVH at 37 due to dermoid cysts.
