6th Months and still pain and swelling
I am confused about why I am still having pain 6th months after I had my STAH. I am a teacher and I moved to a new school this year. In my move, I had to do a lot of lifting and shifting. Although I was just moving books from one room to another (literature anthologies for 6,7,8 grade) and I had a cart, I have been swelling up and experiencing post-surgery pain like I had 2-3 weeks after my surgery. I mean it really hurts. Has anyone experienced anything like this? Will this swelling and pain just continue forever or what?
Please, somebody reply. Thank You.

6th Months and still pain and swelling
Hi KLZ,
It sounds like you are still healing. It has been said and is my own personal experience that it takes 6 months to a year to fully heal. I would imagine you aggravated the healing tissues enough for them to let you know about it. I had things like this happen to me up until about 8 months out. It did get better all the time. Are you doing any exercising to try to strengthen your abs? I found it did help to do very conservative exercise. I was one that took a long time to heal. I tried and tried to get back into exercising, but found myself in pain with most attempts. I hope that isn't discouraging to you. I share it just so you will know that it isn't abnormal to still have flare ups at 6 months. You are probably doing a lot better than I was at 6 months, but just have done something to aggravate your healing.
That said, I don't think its a bad idea to have your dr check it out to make sure there isn't something else going on. I went back over and over and there was never anything found. With time it has gone away. I hope yours will settle down soon and that there isn't anything else going on. Let us know if you learn anything more.
 's, Rita

Your reply is helpful
Thank you so much for your reply! I have been doing a lot of exercise and just a little bit of abdominal work. Every time I do ANY abdominal work I swell swell swell. I think what put me over the edge was lifting all the books. I decided not to work out today and to just have a rest day when I found it hard to get out of bed.
So... back to work tomorrow, but all my heavy lifting is over. It's just curriculum planning for the next week.
Once again, Thank you.
